Proclaiming a Tribal District Under the Maori Social and
Economic Advancement Act and Consequential Revocations

COBHAM, Governor-General

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to section 6 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act 1945, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the
Governor-General of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and
declare the parts of New Zealand described in the First
Schedule hereto to be tribal districts under the Maori Social
and Economic Advancement Act 1945 with the respective
names therein set out, and do hereby revoke the earlier
Proclamation enumerated in the Second Schedule hereto.

FIRST SCHEDULE

TE AU-O-WAIKATO TRIBAL DISTRICT

ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded
by a line commencing at the confluence of the Mangawara
Stream with the Komakorau Stream in Block IV, Newcastle
Survey District; thence proceeding north-easterly along a
right line to Trig. Station 1230 (Pukewhau) in Block V,
Hapuakohe Survey District, a right line to Trig. Station 2043
(Ratamaroke) in Block XV, Piako Survey District, and a right
line to Trig. Station 2042 (Ratawera) in Block XV, Piako
Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the County
of Waikato as described in the Gazette of 1959 at page 467;
thence southerly generally along that county boundary to the
northernmost corner of Section 1S, Tainui Settlement, being
a point on the boundary of the County of Piako as described
in the Gazette of 1945 at page 257; thence easterly, south-
easterly, and north-easterly generally along that county boun-
dary to the easternmost point of the Borough of Te Aroha
as described in the Gazette of 1917 at page 1868; thence
northerly along a right line to Trig. Station 567 (Te Aroha)
on the westernmost corner of Block XI, Katikati Survey
District; thence north-easterly along a right line in the direction
of Trig. Station Ma (Ngakuriawharei) on the north-western
boundary of Block II, Katikati North Survey District, to its
junction with the north-eastern boundary of the original
Aroha Block as shown on Maori Land Court Plan numbered
3062; thence south-easterly along the last-mentioned boundary
to and along the western boundary of a forest reserve, to its
junction with the north-western boundary of Whakamarama
No. 2 Block; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern and
southern boundaries of Maurihoro A Block to the eastern
boundary of Section 11, Block XI, Wairere Survey District;
thence southerly along that boundary and its production to the
middle of the Wairere Stream; thence down the middle of that
stream to and up the middle of the Waihou River to its
intersection with the production of a right line between the
south-eastern corner of Section 55, Matamata Settlement, in
Block II, Tapapa Survey District, and the north-eastern corner
of Section 31, Matamata Settlement; thence south-westerly to
and along the said right line to the south-eastern corner of
Section 55 aforesaid; thence south-westerly and north-westerly
generally along Gunns Road and Peria Road to the south-
western corner of Lot 23, D.P. 1297, part Puketutu 1 Block;
thence westerly along a right line to the intersection of the
production of the south-western boundary of Lot 4, D.P. 14276,
part of Te Pae-o-Turawaru No. 2 Block, with the middle of
the Piakonui Stream, being a point on the boundary of the
Matamata County, as described in the Gazette of 1950 at page
275; thence north-westerly and south-westerly generally along
that county boundary to the south-western corner of Lot 7, D.P.
17890, in Block VII, Cambridge Survey District, being a point
on the boundary of the County of Waikato as described in the
Gazette of 1959 at page 467; thence north-westerly generally
along that county boundary to the middle of the Auckland-
Thames Railway; thence south-westerly along the middle of
that railway to its intersection with a right line between the
northernmost corner of Lot 4A, D.P. 3916, in Block XV,
Komakorau Survey District, and the intersection of the
southern boundary of Block VI, Komakorau Survey District,
with the middle of the Komakorau Stream; thence north-
westerly along the said right line to and down the middle of
the Komakorau Stream to its confluence with the Mangawara
Stream, the point of commencement.

TANIWHARAU TRIBAL DISTRICT

All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded
by a line commencing at the mouth of the Ohuka Stream in
Block III, Coast Survey District; thence proceeding north-
easterly along a right line to Trig. Station 72 in Block IV,
Awaroa Survey District; thence southerly along a right line
