Boundaries of Borough of Runanga, County of Grey, and
North Riding of County of Grey Defined

PURSUANT to section 26 of the Municipal Corporations Act
1954, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set
out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Borough of
Runanga, the County of Grey, and the North Riding of the
County of Grey, the previous boundaries having been altered
by Order in Council made on the 29th day of March 1960,
and published in Gazette, 31 March 1960, No. 22, page 416.

SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF BOROUGH OF RUNANGA

ALL that area in the Westland Land District bounded by a
line commencing at Trig. Station A in Block III, Cobden
Survey District, and proceeding along a bearing of 205°
to the right bank of Coal Creek; thence south-westerly
generally along that bank to the eastern side of the Westport-
Greymouth State Highway; thence northerly along the eastern
side of that highway to a point in line with the southern
boundary of Lot 15, D.P. 959; thence westerly along a right
line to the south-eastern corner of that lot; thence north-
westerly along the north-eastern boundaries of Lots 15, 14,
13, 12, 11, 10, and 9, D.P. 959, to the northernmost corner of
Lot 9 aforesaid; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern
boundary of Lot 8, D.P. 959, and north-westerly along the
south-western boundaries of Lots 8, 7, and 6, D.P. 959, and
a right line to the southernmost corner of Lot 5, D.P. 959;
thence north-westerly generally along the north-eastern bound-
aries of part Section 9, Block II, Cobden Survey District (D.P.
969), to the southern boundary of Section 8, Block V, Town
of Runanga Extension; thence easterly along that boundary to
the western side of a public road; thence northerly along the
western side of that road and its production to the southern
boundary of part Section 11, Square 124; thence easterly along
that boundary to the western side of the Westport-Greymouth
State Highway; thence northerly along the western side of that
highway to a point in line with the north-western boundary of
Lot 1, D.P. 371; thence north-easterly to and along that
boundary and its production to the left bank of Seven Mile
Creek; thence easterly generally along that bank to a point
on a bearing of 25° from Trig. Station A; thence along a
bearing of 205° to the point of commencement.

BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF GREY

All that area in the Westland District bounded by a line
commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the
Punakaiki River and proceeding up the middle of that river
to its source; thence south-easterly along a line to the summit
of the Paparoa Range; thence north-easterly generally along
the summit of that range to Mount Faraday; thence south-
easterly generally to the source of Morison Creek; thence
down the middle of that creek and the Otututu River and up
the middle of the Grey River to its confluence with Snow
Creek; thence north-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station
Z, Mount Haast; thence south-easterly generally along the
summit of the watershed between the Maruia and Grey
Rivers to the summit of the Southern Alps; thence south-
westerly generally along that summit to Trig. Station H.P.,
Harper Pass; thence to and down the middle of the Taramakau
River to the sea coast; thence north-easterly along that sea
coast to the point of commencement; excluding therefrom
the Borough of Greymouth as described in Gazette, 1934,
pages 2998 and 3325, the Borough of Brunner as described in
Gazette, 1887, page 1392, and the Borough of Runanga as
described above.

All that area in the Westland Land District, County of Grey
bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the
mouth of the Punakaiki River and proceeding along the Grey
County boundary as described above, to the confluence of the
Otututu and Grey Rivers; thence south-westerly down the
middle of the Grey River to the eastern boundary of the
Borough of Brunner as described in Gazette, 1887, page 1392;
thence northerly, westerly, and southerly along the eastern,
northern, and western boundaries of that Borough to the
middle of the Grey River; thence westerly down the middle
of that river to the eastern boundary of the Borough of
Greymouth as described in Gazette, 1934, pages 2998 and
3325; thence northerly and westerly generally along the eastern
and northern boundaries of the said Borough to the sea coast;
thence north-easterly along the sea coast to the point of
commencement; excluding therefrom the Borough of Runanga
as described above.
