ORDER

  1. This order may be cited as the New Zealand Easter Show Order 1960.
  2. In this order, unless the context otherwise requires,
    • "The Act" means the Exhibitions Act 1910;
    • "The promoter" means the Auckland Manufacturers' Association and the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association;
    • "The exhibition" means a public exhibition of works of industry and art, to be conducted by the promoter at the Epsom Showgrounds, Auckland, from the 1st day of April 1960 to the 19th day of April 1960 (both inclusive) and to be known as the New Zealand Easter Show 1960.
  3. The exhibition is hereby authorised, and declared to be an exhibition within the meaning of the Act.
  4. Subject to the conditions set out in the Schedule hereto, the following provisions are hereby suspended in so far as they relate to work done or business conducted or services rendered in the said premises during the period of the exhibition, by or on behalf of the promoter, or by or on behalf of any exhibitor at the exhibition, or by any person employed in or about the exhibition, namely, such of the provisions of:
    • (a) The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1954 and all awards and industrial agreements in force thereunder;
    • (b) The Shops and Offices Act 1955; and
    • (c) The Factories Act 1946,-

as relate to the hours of commencing or ceasing work, or to the issue of permits, or to the payment for overtime or extended hours, or to holidays and half-holidays, or to the closing of shops.

SCHEDULE

  1. Eight hours shall constitute a day's work in or about the exhibition, and, with the exception set out in clause 2 hereof, the hours shall be worked consecutively.
  2. No person shall be employed in or about the exhibition for more than four hours without an interval of at least three-quarters of an hour for a meal.
  3. Any person employed during any day in or about the exhibition who is employed on that day for more than eight hours, or before the hour of 8 a.m., or after the hour of 10.30 p.m. (whether the excess employment is in or about the exhibition or otherwise) shall be paid for the excess employment at not less than half as much again as the ordinary rate for the first two hours and at not less than twice the ordinary rate thereafter, and any person employed in or about the exhibition on any day that would, but for the provisions of this order, have been a whole holiday for that person by virtue of any Act or of any award or industrial agreement shall be paid for all work done on that day at not less than twice the ordinary rate whether the work is performed wholly in or about the exhibition or otherwise.
  4. No male under eighteen years of age and no female shall be employed in or about the exhibition after the hour of 10.30 p.m.
  5. For the purposes of the enforcement of an award or industrial agreement any provision of which has been suspended by this order, any officer of the industrial union or association concerned who is authorised in writing in that behalf by the union or association shall be entitled to interview at his place of employment any person employed in or about the exhibition under that award or industrial agreement at such time or times as may be agreed upon between the officer and the employer of that person, and for this purpose any such officer shall be entitled at any time to have access to the Register of Passes issued by the promoter.
  6. Nothing in this order shall be deemed to affect any provisions in an award or industrial agreement requiring workers subject to the award or industrial agreement to be members of a union.

Appointing a Member of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council

COBHAM, Governor-General

Pursuant to section 3 of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act 1941, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby appoint

John Leddra Wallis, Esquire, of Te Awamutu, farmer, to be a member of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council representing the interests of areas which are not included in any catchment district, for a term commencing on 21 March 1960 and terminating on 7 July 1962.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General this 11th day of March 1960.

Pursuant to section 15 of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Act 1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointment, promotions, extension of commission, transfers, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Extension of Commission

Flight Lieutenant Donald McFarlane Stark (70432) is granted an extension of his commission for the period 2 June 1959 to 17 April 1960.

Promotions

The under-mentioned Flying Officers to be Flight Lieutenants, with effect from the dates shown:

MEDICAL BRANCH
Transfer and Appointment

Flying Officer Leonard James Thompson, M.B., CH.B. (920114), is transferred from the Medical Branch, Reserve of Air Force Officers, to the Regular Air Force and is granted a short-service commission for a sufficient period to enable him to complete refresher flying and subsequently to serve for four and a half years to be followed by 12 years in the Reserve of Air Force Officers. He is appointed to the rank of Flying Officer (temporary Flight Lieutenant) with seniority from 1 February 1958, with effect from 1 February 1960.

AIR TRAINING CORPS

Retirement

Flight Lieutenant (temp.) Albert Thomas Ziegler is retired, with effect from 11 February 1960.

Transfers

The under-mentioned officers are transferred from the General Duties Branch, Regular Air Force, to the Reserve of Air Force Officers for a period of four years, with effect from the date shown:

Revocation of Appointment to Control and Manage a Reserve

Pursuant to the Reserves and Domains Act 1953, the Minister of Lands hereby revokes the appointment of the Ship Cove and Queen Charlotte Sound Reserve Board to control and manage the reserve for scenic purposes described in the Schedule hereto.
