Revocation of Approval to Issue Warrants of Fitness

PURSUANT to subclause (3) of regulation 52 of the Traffic Regulations 1956, the Minister of Transport hereby revokes the approval of the firm described in the Schedule hereto to issue warrants of fitness for motor vehicles.

Result of Election by Fire Insurance Companies to Fill an Extraordinary Vacancy on the Fire Board for the Gisborne Urban Fire District

PURSUANT to the Fire Services Act 1949, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby gives notice of the following result of the election held on 30 January 1958 by the fire-insurance companies carrying on business in New Zealand to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the fire board for the Gisborne Urban Fire District.

Commission to Inquire Into and Report Upon Proposals for the Alteration of the Boundaries of the Inner Area of the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage District

To all to whom these presents shall come and to:

ARCHIBALD ALBANY McLACHLAN, of Lower Hutt, Stipendiary Magistrate;

NORMAN HAROLD MOSS, O.B.E., of Stratford; and

WALTER ALEXANDER LEE, O.B.E., of Waitomo:

GREETING.

WHEREAS, pursuant to sections 4 and 6 of the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Act 1944, the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Board has presented a petition containing proposals for the alteration of the boundaries of the Inner Area of the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage District and for the alteration of the basis of representation upon the Board:

And whereas objections have been lodged to the said proposals:

Now, therefore, pursuant to the said sections 4 and 6 of the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Act 1944, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby appoint you the said Archibald Albany McLachlan, Norman Harold Moss, and Walter Alexander Lee to be a Commission of Inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1908, to inquire into and report upon the said proposals:

And I hereby appoint you, the said Archibald Albany McLachlan, to be the Chairman of the said Commission:

And you are hereby authorised to conduct any inquiry under these presents, in accordance with the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1908, at such times and places as you deem expedient, with power to adjourn from time to time and place to place as you may think fit; and this Commission shall continue in full force whether or not the inquiry is regularly continued by adjournments as aforesaid:

And it is hereby declared that the powers hereby conferred shall be exercisable notwithstanding the absence at any time of any one of the members hereby appointed so long as the Chairman, or a member deputed by the Chairman to act in his stead, and one other member are present and concur in the exercise of such powers:

And, using all due diligence, you are required to report to me not later than the 20th day of March 1958 your findings and opinions on the matters aforesaid, together with such recommendations as you think fit to make in respect thereto:

And you are hereby strictly charged and directed that you shall not at any time publish or otherwise disclose, except to me in pursuance of these presents or by my direction, the contents or purport of any report so made or to be made by you.

Part V, Transport Act 1949: Motor Vehicles Insurance (Third Party Risks)

PURSUANT to subsection (5) of section 68 of the Transport Act 1949 (Part V), notice is hereby given that the Century Insurance Co. Ltd., has notified me of its willingness to undertake, as from the 1st day of July 1958, insurance business in terms of the above-mentioned Act.

Revoking Designation of State Highway; Revoking Declaration of Main Highway; Declaring Public Highway to be Main Highway; and Designating Main Highway to be State Highway

PURSUANT to sections 11 and 12 of the National Roads Act 1953, the National Roads Board, acting with written approval of the Minister of Works, hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. The main highway described in the First Schedule hereto shall cease to be designated State highway.

  2. (1) The public highway described in the First Schedule hereto shall cease to be main highway.

(2) The Order in Council* made on the 2nd day of October 1940, declaring (inter alia) the portions of highway described in the First Schedule hereto to be main highway is hereby consequentially amended by revoking so much of the Second Schedule thereto as relates to the said portions of highway.

  1. The public highway described in the Second Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be main highway within the meaning and for the purposes of the National Roads Act 1953.

  2. The main highway described in the Second Schedule hereto is hereby designated State highway and shall form part of the Picton-Christchurch State Highway.

  3. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.


FIRST SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT NO. 13

ALL that portion of public highway in the County of Kaikoura commencing 10 chains, more or less, south of the Boundary Stream bridge in Lot 59, Block 19, Whernside Survey District, and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction and terminating at the Deadman Stream bridge in Lot 53, Block 19, Whernside Survey District, declared as portion of the Picton-Christchurch State Highway as described in Order in Council dated 2 October 1940.*

All that portion of public highway in the County of Cheviot as described in Order in Council dated 2 October 1940,* and declared as portion of the Picton-Christchurch State Highway.


SECOND SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT NO. 13

Picton-Christchurch: All that public highway in the County of Kaikoura commencing at a point 10 chains, more or less, south of the Boundary Stream bridge in Lot 59, Block 19, Whernside Survey District, and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction through the stock resting reserve and terminating at the Deadman Stream bridge in Lot 53, Block 19, Whernside Survey District, being a distance of 2 miles, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 154287 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Also all that public highway in the County of Cheviot commencing at the northern boundary of the County at the northern corner of part Section 32, Block XI, Hawkwood Survey District; and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction along the right bank of the Conway River to the north-eastern corner of part Section 9, Block X, Hawkwood Survey District; and proceeding thence generally in a south-south-westerly direction by way of the Townships of Parnassus and Spotswood and via Parnassus Road to the Township of Cheviot; and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction via Homestead Road to the Township of Domett; and thence in a west-south-westerly direction by way of Tormore to the southern corner of Lot 2, Section I, Block XVII, Lowry Peaks Survey District, on the southern boundary of Cheviot County, being a distance of 32 miles 34 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 154286, and thereon coloured red.
