Exemption Order Under the Motor Drivers Regulations 1940


PURSUANT to the Motor Drivers Regulations 1940, the Minister of Transport hereby orders and declares that the provisions of clause (1) of regulation 7 of the said regulations so far as they relate to the driving of heavy trade motors shall not apply to the person hereinafter mentioned, but in lieu thereof the following provision shall apply:

A motor driver’s licence issued under the Motor Drivers Regulations 1940 to the person described in column 1 of the Schedule hereunder may authorise him to drive a heavy trade motor in the course of his employment for the employer described in column 2 of the said Schedule, but shall not authorise him, while he is under the age of 18 years, to drive a heavy trade motor for any other purpose.

Limited Speed Zone Declared


PURSUANT to the Transport Act 1949, the Minister of Transport hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. That Warrant under regulation 27 of the Traffic Regulations 1956 dated the 17th day of March 1958* which relates to an area at Dunsandel in Selwyn County is hereby revoked.

  2. The portions of roads specified in the Schedule to this notice are hereby declared to be limited speed zones for the purposes of the Traffic Regulations 1956†.


SCHEDULE

SITUATED within Selwyn County—

  1. That portion of the Christchurch-Timaru State Highway No. 58 at Dunsandel from a point 24 chains south-west of the Dunsandel-Hororata Main Highway No. 196 to a point 12 chains north-east of the said junction.

  2. That portion of the Dunsandel-Hororata Main Highway No. 196 at Dunsandel from its junction with the Christchurch-Timaru State Highway No. 58 to a point 24 chains north-west of the said junction.

Declaring Road to be Limited Speed Zone


PURSUANT to the Transport Act 1949, the Minister of Transport hereby gives notice as follows:

The portion of road specified in the Schedule to this notice is hereby declared to be a limited speed zone for the purposes of the Traffic Regulations 1956.*

Consent to Erection of Flashing Red Traffic-control Lights by the Petone Borough Council


PURSUANT to subclause (5) of regulation 18 of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Minister of Transport hereby consents to the erection of flashing red lights by the Petone Borough Council at the four places described in the Schedule hereto for the purposes of traffic control in terms of subclause (4) of the said regulation 18.

SITUATED within Petone Borough on the Esplanade at its western and eastern approaches to Buick Street and on Jackson Street at its western and eastern approaches to Buick Street, as more particularly indicated on plans TT. 2368 and TT. 2369, deposited in the Head Office of the Transport Department at Wellington.

Varying Determination by the Minister of Customs Under Section 16 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act 1934


PURSUANT to section 16 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act 1934, the Minister of Customs hereby varies the determinations made under the said section 16, dated the 29th day of April 1939, and published in the Gazette on 11 May 1939, Volume II, pages 1457–1458, by deleting from paragraph 5 of Part II thereof the words:

“Undercarriage springs (not including shackles therefor)”

and by adding to paragraph 4 of Part II thereof the words:

“Laminated undercarriage springs (not including shackles therefor).”

This variation of the aforesaid determinations shall take effect on the 1st day of January 1959.

Arbor Day 1958


IT is hereby notified that Wednesday 6 August 1958, is to be observed as Arbor Day and, in view of the national importance of tree planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested to organise suitable celebrations on that date.

Where, on account of local climatic conditions in any district, the 6th day of August is deemed unsuitable the local bodies affected are invited to observe some other suitable day in the month.

Reserve Bank of New Zealand


PURSUANT to section 45 of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act 1933 (as amended by section 23 of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Amendment Act 1936), the Governor of the Reserve Bank, acting with the authority of the Minister of Finance, hereby gives notice that, as from 30 July 1958, the balance to be maintained in the Reserve Bank by each other bank for the time being carrying on business in New Zealand in accordance with the said section 45 shall be such that, when added to that bank’s holding of Reserve Bank notes, it shall be equal to not less than 28½ per cent of its demand liabilities in New Zealand, plus 10 per cent of its time liabilities in New Zealand, as shown in the last preceding monthly return furnished by that bank in accordance with section 46 of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act 1933:

Provided that the minimum balance to be maintained at the Reserve Bank shall not be less than 7 per cent of its demand liabilities in New Zealand, plus 3 per cent of its time liabilities in New Zealand.

For the purpose of this calculation a bank’s holding of Reserve Bank notes shall be as shown in the latest available weekly return provided under the Statistics Act 1955.
