Boundaries of Borough of Otaki, County of Horowhenua, and Otaki Riding of County of Horowhenua Defined
Pursuant to section 26 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Borough of Otaki, the County of Horowhenua, and the Otaki Riding of the County of Horowhenua, the previous boundaries having been altered by Order in Council made on 25 September 1957, and published in Gazette of 26 September 1957, No. 69, page 1710.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF BOROUGH OF OTAKI
All that area in the Wellington Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Waitohu Stream, in Block V, Waitohu Survey District; thence easterly up the middle of that stream to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of the Taumanuka Block; thence south-westerly to and along that boundary to the north-eastern side of Tasman Road; thence south-easterly along that side of Tasman Road to the westernmost corner of the land as shown on D.P. 12156; thence north-easterly and easterly generally along the north-western boundary and the generally northern boundaries of that land to the western boundary of the land as shown on D.P. 15806; thence northerly and south-easterly along the western and north-eastern boundaries of that land to the north-western side of Rauparaha Street; thence north-easterly along that side of the said street to a point due north-west of the westernmost corner of Pukekaraka No. 5 Block; thence south-easterly along a right line to the said westernmost corner of that block and north-easterly along the south-eastern side of Rauparaha Street, to the northernmost corner of the said Pukekaraka No. 5 Block; thence southerly generally along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of that block and the production of the last-mentioned boundary across Waitohu 11A to the north-eastern boundary of Titokitoki 3H 3; thence south-easterly generally along that boundary, the north-eastern boundaries of Titokitoki 3F 2, part 3c 3, 3c 2, the abutment of a public road, the north-eastern boundaries of Titokitoki part 3, the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Waitohu 11c 2, the north-eastern boundary of Haruatai 7 and the eastern boundary of Church Mission Grant to Ngai Stream; thence south-easterly along the right bank of that stream to and along the north-western, north-eastern, and south-eastern boundaries of Haruatai A and B Blocks to the left bank of the Ngai Stream and along the left bank of that stream to the north-western side of the North Island Main Trunk Railway; thence south-westerly along that side of the said railway to peg IV, as shown on S.O. Plan 13061, being a point on the south-eastern side of the old Horowhenua County Road (now part of the Paekakariki-Levin State Highway); thence north-westerly along a right line across the half angle of that old road to its north-western side; thence south-westerly along the north-western side of that old road to its intersection with the north-eastern side of River Bank Road; thence north-westerly along that side of the said road and its production across another portion of the said River Bank Road, to its north-western side; thence north-easterly along that side of the said road to the southernmost corner of Harurunui No. 1 Block; thence north-westerly generally along the south-western boundary of that block to its intersection with the southern boundary of part Lot 1 as shown on D.P. 16562, along the southern and western boundaries of part Lot 1 aforesaid to the westernmost corner of that lot, being a point on the northern side of the old course of the Otaki River and along the said northern side of the old course of the Otaki River, to the western boundary of Maungapiharau Block; thence northerly along that boundary to the Mangapiharau Creek, and down that creek to its confluence with the Maringiawai Stream; thence due north along a right line to the southern boundary of Lot 8 as shown on D.P. 3364; thence north-easterly generally along that southern boundary, the southern and south-eastern boundaries of Lot 11 as shown on D.P. 3364, to the south-western side of Tasman Road; thence north-westerly along that side of Tasman Road to the northern corner of Lot 5 as shown on D.P. 3364; thence south-westerly along the north-western boundaries of that lot and the production of the last-mentioned boundary across Rangiuru Stream to its left bank and along that bank to Rangiuru Road; thence easterly along the northern side of that road to the western boundary of Takapu Block; thence southerly and easterly along the western and southern boundaries of that block, to the northern side of the old course of the Otaki River; thence westerly and northerly along the said northern side of the old course of the Otaki River to and up the left bank of the Rangiuru Stream to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Taumanuka 31; thence north-westerly across the Rangiuru Stream to and along the south-western boundary of Taumanuka 3r to the sea coast; thence north-easterly along the sea coast to the middle of the mouth of the Waitohu Stream, being the point of commencement.
BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF HOROWHENUA
All that area in the Wellington Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea coast in the middle of the mouth of the Manawatu River; thence easterly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Tuwhakatupua 1A as shown on M.L. Plan 890; thence south-easterly to and along that boundary to Mangawarawara Trig. Station, at the easternmost corner of the aforesaid block, along a right line to the intersection of the south-eastern boundary of Section 358, Block VI, Arawaru Survey District, with a public road; thence southerly generally along that south-eastern boundary to the southernmost corner of the said Section 358 and along the south-western boundaries of Sections 333, 320, and 319, Block VI aforesaid, and Section 318, Block VIII, Arawaru Survey District, to the southernmost corner of that section; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 318, 317, 316, and 315, all of Block VIII aforesaid, to the easternmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence south-easterly along a right line to Arawaru Trig. Station; thence south-westerly along a right line to Mount Dundas and along the summit of the Tararua Range to Mount Hector; thence westerly along a right line to the easternmost corner of Lot 10, D.P. 618 situated in Block III, Akatarawa Survey District, along the north-eastern boundary of that lot, across a public road, along the north-eastern and north-western boundaries of Lot 8, D.P. 619, along the north-eastern boundary of Ngarara West C 18 to a point in the middle of the Ngatiawa River, down the middle of that river to a point in the middle of a branch road through Section 43, Block X, Kaitawa Survey District, along the middle of that road, Ngatiawa Road and the Upper Hutt-Waikanae Main Highway to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 3432, being part Ngarara West C 23, to and along that boundary and the north-western boundary of that lot, to and along the south-eastern side of the North Island Main Trunk Railway, to and down the middle of the Waikanae River to the sea coast; thence northerly along the sea coast to the point of commencement,
excluding therefrom the Boroughs of Levin, Otaki, and Shannon.
BOUNDARIES OF OTAKI RIDING
All that portion of the Horowhenua County bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea coast in line with the southern boundary of Ohau 3 Block; thence to and along that boundary and the southern boundary of Ohau 2 Block and its production to the boundary of the Horowhenua County, hereinbefore described, being the summit of the Tararua Range; thence south-westerly along that county boundary to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Waihoanga 1c; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary and the south-western boundary of Waihoanga 1B to the Otaki River; thence down the middle of that river to the sea coast; thence northerly along the sea coast to the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough of Otaki.

Commission of Inquiry
ACCIDENT AT WESTHAVEN COAL MINE, MANGARAKAU, COLLINGWOOD
It is hereby notified that a Commission of Inquiry has been appointed to inquire into and report upon the accident which occurred at the Westhaven Coal Mine, Mangarakau, Collingwood, on 17 January 1958, and matters incidental thereto, viz:
(a) The cause of the accident in the Westhaven Mine on 17 January 1958;
(b) The nature and character of the working and the efficiency of the management of the mine;
(c) The efficiency of the inspection of the mine by all or any of the persons who are responsible for that inspection;
(d) Suggestions for the prevention, as far as possible, of similar accidents and for the safe working of this and other mines in the future.
The commission will commence the inquiry at the Court-house, Nelson, on Tuesday, 3 June 1958, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon.
All persons desirous of giving evidence are requested to communicate in writing with H. G. Brodie, Counsel assisting the Commission, care of Messrs Fell and Hardy, barristers and solicitors, Hardy Street, Nelson, as soon as possible. In order to facilitate the work of the Commission it is desired that prepared statements be submitted where possible; these statements may be supplemented by oral evidence if desired.
