Setting Apart Maori Freehold Land as a Maori Reservation

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 17th day of April 1958

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. W. NASH PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to section 439 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby sets apart the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto as a Maori reservation for the purposes of a meeting place, recreation ground, and sports ground for the common use and benefit of the owners and the Maoris resident in the district.

Boundaries of Rangitaiki Drainage District Altered

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 21st day of April 1958

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. W. NASH PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares:

  1. That the area described in the First Schedule hereto is hereby included in the Rangitaiki Drainage District.

  2. That the boundaries of the Rangitaiki Drainage District as so altered shall be as defined in the Second Schedule hereto.

  3. That the alteration of boundaries of the said district hereinafore made shall be deemed to have been effected under the Land Drainage Act 1908.

FIRST SCHEDULE

AREA INCLUDED IN RANGITAIKI DRAINAGE DISTRICT

ALL that area of approximately 4,100 acres in the Whakatane County in the South Auckland Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block IX, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, being the south-western corner of Section 24 of that Block IX, and running generally easterly along the southern boundaries of Section 24 aforesaid, Sections 25, 29, and 28 of Block IX aforesaid, to and along the southern side of the road forming the southern boundary of Lot 2, D.P. 13307, being part Allotments 125 and 127, Matata Parish, to and along a part of the southern boundary of the last-mentioned Lot 2 along the southern boundary of Lot 3, D.P. 13307, being part Allotments 125 and 127 aforesaid, and the southern boundary of Allotment 117, Matata Parish aforesaid, to and southerly, south-westerly, and westerly along the eastern boundary of Allotment 59B 2D 1, the eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Allotment 59B 2C, and the south-eastern and southern boundaries of Allotment 59B 2B, the aforesaid allotments being of Matata Parish, to the south-eastern boundary of the Kawerau Borough; thence north-easterly along that Borough boundary as described in Gazette, No. 37 of 9 May 1957, page 808, to the south-western corner of Section 24 aforesaid, the point of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF RANGITAIKI DRAINAGE DISTRICT

ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District, County of Whakatane, containing 90,200 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the junction of the left bank of the Whakatane River with the shores of the Bay of Plenty in Block II, Whakatane Survey District, and proceeding southerly generally along the left bank of the Whakatane River to the northern boundary of Block VIII, Whakatane Survey District; thence westerly generally along the northern boundary of the said block and the northern and western boundaries of Block XII, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, to and along the summit of the western watershed of the Waimeha Stream, to and along the northern boundary of Block XV, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, and along the northern boundary of Block XIV of the last-mentioned Survey District to the left bank of the Rangitaiki River; thence northerly generally along the left bank of the Rangitaiki River to a point in line with the northern boundary of part Allotment 59B 3A, Matata Parish in Block X, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District; thence generally south-westerly along a right line to and along that northern boundary crossing an intervening public road and along the southern boundaries of Allotment 115 and Lot 1 of Allotment 116, the northern boundary of part Allotment 59B 3D 2, the eastern boundary of Allotment 59B 2D 1, the eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Allotment 59B 2C and the south-eastern and southern boundaries of Allotment 59B 2B, to the south-eastern boundary of the Borough of Kawerau; thence northerly generally along that borough boundary as described in Gazette, 1957, page 808, to the right bank of the Tarawera River; thence along a right line crossing that river, part Allotment 39A 2B and Allotment 39A 2A to the southernmost point on the shores of Lake Rotoitipaku in Block IX, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District; thence again northerly generally along the western shores of that lake, the eastern boundary of Allotment 41, that eastern boundary produced to and along the generally southern and western shores of Lake Rotoroa and the north-western boundary of Allotment 38 to the northernmost corner of that allotment; thence along a right line to the northernmost corner of Allotment 5 in Block V, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, crossing Allotments 238, a public road, part 31, 239, 316, the Rotorua-Whakatane State Highway No. 16, and Allotment 5; thence again northerly generally along the middle of Onepu Road, the middle of Awakaponga Road, and the middle of the Rotorua-Mataa Main Highway No. 412, to and along the northern boundary of the East Coast Main Trunk Railway, along the north-eastern boundary of part Allotment 14, the north-eastern boundaries of Allotments 108 and 213, and again along another part of the north-eastern boundary of part Allotment 14 to its northernmost corner in Block 1, Awaateatua Survey District; all the aforesaid allotments being of the Parish of Matata; thence along right line across
