Alterations to the Scales of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways
PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act 1949, the Minister of Railways hereby makes the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges made on the 21st day of May 1957 and published in the Supplement dated the 28th day of May 1957 to the New Zealand Gazette of the 23rd day of May 1957, and to the Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 25th day of February 1957 and published in the Supplement dated the 6th day of March 1957 to the New Zealand Gazette of the 28th day of February 1957, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways and hereby declares that such alterations shall come into force on the 15th day of April 1958.

2. Ordinary Tickets
Paragraph 2: Omit this paragraph, and substitute the following:
- Availability—Tickets at ordinary fares (regulation 2) will be available as follows:
(a) Single tickets for journeys not exceeding 20 miles—for one day only, being the date shown on the ticket.
(b) Single tickets for journeys exceeding 20 miles—for six calendar months from and including the date shown on the ticket.
(c) Return tickets—for six calendar months from and including the date shown on the ticket.
(d) The journey may be commenced at any time within the period of availability of the ticket and must be completed before the expiry of such period.
10. Picnic and School Parties
Paragraph 3: Under the heading “Stop-over Tickets” omit the words “Scholars Attending Schools, and School-teachers Only”, and substitute “Scholars (Irrespective of Age) Attending Schools, and School-teachers Only”.
12. Railway Employees’ Privilege Tickets
Add new paragraph:
- Availability and Break of Journey—Privilege tickets based on ordinary fares will be subject to the provisions of regulation 2, paragraphs 2 and 3. Privilege tickets based on local fares will be subject to the provisions of regulation 32, paragraphs 1, 2, 3, and 4, except that six-trip privilege tickets will be available for three months.
25. Sleeping-berths
Paragraph 9: Omit this paragraph, and substitute the following:
- When a passenger books a sleeping-berth the station at which he will join the train must be stated. If the passenger later desires to join at a different station he must notify the original joining station before the train arrives there.
30. Restrictions on Travel by Specified Trains
Paragraph 2, subparagraph (b): Omit the number “3” from the list of regulation numbers contained in this subparagraph.
