Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand Elected

Pursuant to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1933, the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand has been pleased, at its annual meetings specified hereunder, to elect the persons named hereunder to be Fellows of that Society:

(a) At its annual meeting held on 19 May 1953—
Bastings, Lyndon, B.A., D.SC.(N.Z.), M.SC.(CANTAB.), F.INST.P.
Marples, Brian John, M.A.(OXON.), M.SC.(MANC.).

(b) At its annual meeting held on 15 May 1954—
Wellman, Harold William, M.SC.(HONS).

(c) At its annual meeting held on 17 May 1955—
Richdale, Launcelot Eric, M.A., D.SC.

Resolutions Amending Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand

Pursuant to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1933, notice is hereby given that the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand has, at its annual meetings specified hereunder, passed the following resolutions amending its rules which were published in the Gazette on 14 November 1935, Volume III, page 3315:

(a) A resolution, passed at the annual meeting of the Council held on 29 May 1936 with reference to section F 1 governing the Hutton Memorial Medal and Research Fund, that the following words be added to rule 8:

“The medal shall not be awarded more than once to the same person”;

(b) A resolution, passed at the annual meeting of the Council held on 25 May 1948 with reference to section F 1 governing the Hutton Memorial Medal and Research Fund, that—
Rule 11 be amended to read:

“11. The Council may at any annual meeting appoint a Hutton Fund Research Grants Committee to consider applications for research grants from the Fund and to report thereon to the Standing Committee which shall have the power after considering such reports to make immediate grants on behalf of the Council.”

Rule 12 be replaced by the following new rule:

“12. Written applications for such grants shall be made to the Secretary, who on the 1st day of February, May, August, and November shall forward applications received during the previous three months to the convener of the Research Grants Committee. In the event of no Hutton Research Grants Committee having been appointed, applications shall be held for decisions by the Council at the next annual meeting.”

(c) A resolution, passed at the annual meeting of the Council held on 19 May 1953 with reference to section G 1 governing Fellows of the Society, that rule 5 be amended by the addition of the following words:

“Provided that this rule shall not debar the election of a non-member by the unanimous resolution of Council upon special recommendation in an exceptional case and provided the non-member is residing in New Zealand.”

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Te Araroa Development Scheme)

Pursuant to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that, on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 28 October 1941 and published in the Gazette, 6 November 1941, Volume III, page 3359.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Te Araroa Development Scheme)

Pursuant to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that, on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 29 April 1938 and published in the Gazette, 12 May 1938, Volume II, page 1106.
