Varying a Proclamation Declaring Parts of New Zealand to be a Tribal District under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 6 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-General of New Zealand, vary a Proclamation dated 18 November 1947 and published in the Gazette on 8 January 1948, at page 7, declaring parts of New Zealand to be a tribal district under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945, by excluding from the Schedule thereto the description of the Tuwharetoa No. 3 Tribal District and substituting therefor the descriptions appearing in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE

TUWHARETOA NO. 3 TRIBAL DISTRICT

ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station 1712 (Whatawhata) in Block XIV, Tuhua Survey District; thence proceeding easterly along a straight line to the south-western corner of Section 3c 5A, Block XVI, Tuhua Survey District, and a straight line to Trig. Station XVII (Waituhi) in Block XIV, Puketapu Survey District; thence south-westerly along a straight line to the source of the Waipari Stream; thence down the middle of that stream to its confluence with the Wanganui River; thence up the middle of the said river to its junction with the Mangatepopo Stream; thence south-easterly along a straight line to Trig. Station Mangatepopo in Block VII, Tongariro Survey District, and a straight line to Trig. Station D (Ngauruhoe) Block XVI, Tongariro Survey District; thence south-westerly along a straight line to Trig. Station H (Paretetaitonga) Block XI, Ruapehu Survey District, thence westerly along a straight line to Trig. Station Te Kohatu in Block VI, Ruapehu Survey District, a straight line to the source of the Makatote Stream, and down the middle of that stream to its intersection with the eastern boundary of Section 13, Block VIII, Manganui Survey District; thence southerly along the said eastern boundary and the eastern boundary of Section 18, Block VIII, Manganui Survey District, and its production to the middle of the Manganuiateao River; thence down the middle of the said river to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 24, Block XI, Manganui Survey District; thence to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of the Raetihi-Waimarino road; thence north-easterly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 24, Block VII, Manganui Survey District; thence to and along that boundary to and along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of Section 4, Block VI, Manganui Survey District, and the production thereof to the middle of the Makino Road; thence north-easterly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 2, Block VI, Manganui Survey District; thence to and along that boundary and along the south-western boundary of Section 1,

Block VI, and the south-western and north-western boundaries of Section 4, Block II, and along the south-western and north-western boundaries of Section 3, Block I, Manganui Survey District, to its northernmost corner; thence due north along a straight line to a point in the middle of the Ruatiti Stream and northerly up the middle of that stream to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 8, Block XIII, Kaitieke Survey District; thence to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of Kokako Road; thence south-westerly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 5, Block I, Manganui Survey District; thence to and along that boundary and the north-eastern boundary of Section 4, Block XIII, Kaitieke Survey District, to the northernmost corner of the last-mentioned section; thence northerly along a straight line to Trig. Station Upokoera in Block VI, Kaitieke Survey District, a straight line to the easternmost corner of Section 8, Block VIII, Hunua Survey District, and a straight line to the easternmost corner of Section 4, Block II, Hunua Survey District; thence along the southern and western boundaries of the said Section 4 and the production of the last-mentioned boundary across a public road to and along the south-eastern boundary of Section 5, Block II, Hunua Survey District, and along the north-eastern boundary of the said Section 5 and its production to the middle of the Wanganui River; thence up the middle of the said river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of the Taumarunui Borough as described in the Gazette of 1910, at page 3231; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary to the northernmost point of the said borough; thence north-easterly along a straight line to Trig. Station 1712 (Whatawhata), being the point of commencement.

TAUMARUNUI TRIBAL DISTRICT

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the source of the Ongarue River in Block VIII, Hurakia Survey District; thence south-westerly along a straight line to the north-eastern corner of Hauhungaroa No. 9 Block situated in Block X, Puketapu Survey District; thence south-easterly along a straight line to Trig. Station XVII (Waituhi); thence westerly along a straight line to the south-western corner of Section 3c 5A in Block XVI, Tuhua Survey District, and along a straight line to Trig. Station 1712 (Whatawhata) in Block XIV, Tuhua Survey District; thence south-westerly along a straight line to the northernmost corner of the Borough of Taumarunui as described in the Gazette of 1910, at page 3231; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of the said borough and its production to the middle of the Wanganui River; thence down the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 5, Block II, Hunua Survey District; thence to and along that boundary to and along the south-eastern boundary of the said Section 5 to a point in line with the western boundary of Section 4, Block II, Hunua Survey District; thence to and along the western and southern boundaries of the said Section 4 to its easternmost corner; thence southerly along a straight line to the north-eastern corner of Section 8, Block VIII, Hunua Survey District, a straight line to Trig. Station Upokoera in Block VI,
