Varying a Proclamation Declaring Parts of New Zealand to
be a Tribal District Under the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act 1945

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 6 of the Maori
Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945, I,
Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie,
the Governor-General of New Zealand, vary a Proclamation
dated 9 December 1950 and published in the Gazette
on 14 December 1950, at page 2088, declaring parts of
New Zealand to be a tribal district under the Maori Social
and Economic Advancement Act 1945, by excluding from the
Schedule thereto the description of the Maniapoto Tribal
District, and substituting therefor the descriptions appearing
in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE

MANIAPOTO NO. 1 TRIBAL DISTRICT

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District bounded by a
line commencing at the intersection of the northern boundary
of Section 7, Block I, Orahiri Survey District, by a straight
line between a point in the middle of the Awaroa River due
west of the southernmost corner of Scenic Reserve, Section 10,
Block XI, Kawhia North Survey District, and Trig. Station T
(Rock Peak) in Block I, Orahiri Survey District; thence pro-
ceeding easterly along the northern boundary of Section 7
aforesaid to and along the western boundary of Section 5,
Block I aforesaid, and the production of the last-mentioned
boundary to the middle of Kaimango Road; thence easterly
along the middle of that road to and northerly along the
middle of Hauturu Road to its junction with the middle of
the Kawhia State Highway; thence easterly generally along
the middle of that highway to its intersection with the middle
of the Waipa River; thence up the middle of that river to a
point in line with the southern boundary of Section 18, Block
XVI, Pirongia Survey District; thence north-easterly along a
straight line to the confluence of the Puniu River and the
Mangatutu Stream; thence up the middle of the Mangatutu
Stream to a point in line with the southern boundary of the
eastern portion of Rangitoto A No. 27B Block, in Block XIII,
Wharepapa Survey District; thence easterly along a straight
line to Te Ranga Trig. Station in Block XIV, Wharepapa
Survey District, and a straight line to the confluence of the
Waikato River with the Waipapa Stream; thence up the middle
of the Waipapa Stream and the middle of the Waiteti Stream
to its approximate source at peg CXXX on S.O. Plan 20946 (2),
blue; thence south-westerly along a straight line, bearing
209° 13', distance 7767 links; thence south-easterly along
straight lines bearing 169° 44', distance 10266 links, bearing
169° 5', distance 3508 links, as shown on the aforesaid plan;
thence along the eastern and southern boundaries of Maraeroa
A No. 3B Block to the intersection of the last-mentioned
boundary with a straight line between Rangitoto Trig. Station
in Block IV, Pakaumanu Survey District, and the source of the
Ongarue River; thence north-westerly along the said straight
line to its intersection with the south-eastern boundary of
Rangitoto A No. 31B Block; thence north-easterly along that
boundary; thence north-westerly along the south-western boun-
daries of Rangitoto B Block and Rangitoto A No. 29A Block
to the easternmost corner of Rangitoto A No. 40 Block; thence
along the southern boundary of the last-mentioned block;
thence northerly along the western boundaries of Rangitoto
A Nos. 40 and 28 Blocks to the easternmost corner of Rangi-
toto A No. 30B Block; thence along the southern boundary
of that block; thence southerly along the eastern boundaries
of Rangitoto A No. 49B 2 and A No. 60B Blocks; thence
westerly generally along the southern and western boundaries
of the last-mentioned block and the southern boundary of
Rangitoto A No. 67B 1A Block, and the production of the
last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Waipa River;
thence down the middle of that river to a point in line with
the southern boundary of Rangitoto A No. 41 Block; thence
to and along the southern, eastern, and northern boundaries
of that block and the production of the last-mentioned boun-
dary to the middle of the Waipa River; thence again down the
middle of that river to a point in line with the south-western
boundary of Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 35E 2 Block; thence north-
westerly to the south-eastern corner of that block; thence
northerly along the generally eastern boundaries of the said
Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 35E 2 Block, Rangitoto-Tuhua No.
35E 1A Block, and Section 4, Block XIV, Mangaorongo Survey
District, to the north-eastern corner of the last-mentioned
section; thence westerly along the generally northern boun-
daries of the said Section 4, Sections 3 and 14, Block XIV,
aforesaid, the eastern, northern, and western boundaries of
Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 35E 1B Block, the southern boundary
of Rangitoto-Tuhua 26B Block, a straight line to the north-
eastern corner of Rangitoto 69B Block, and along the northern
boundaries of Rangitoto-Tuhua 69B, 71B 1, 71B 2, and 64A
Blocks to the north-western corner of the last-mentioned block;
thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of
Te Kuiti 2B 22, 2B 9B, and 2B 14B Blocks; thence westerly
along the northern boundary of the last-mentioned block to its
northernmost point, along a straight line to Trig. Station
Tapuae in Block XIV, Orahiri Survey District, and a straight
line to the westernmost corner of Section 7, Block IX, Orahiri
Survey District; thence northerly along the generally western
boundaries of Section 7 aforesaid, Section 3, Block IX, afore-
said, Sections 3 and 3A, Block V, Orahiri Survey District, to
and across a road forming the south-eastern boundary of
Section 3A, Block VIII, Kawhia South Survey District; thence
westerly and northerly generally along the south-eastern boun-
daries of Sections 3A and 2, Block VIII, aforesaid, the southern
and western boundaries of Section 1, Block VIII, aforesaid,
and the western boundary of Section 8, Block I, Orahiri
Survey District, to its intersection with a straight line between
the mouth of the Waihekura Stream and Trig. Station T
(Rock Peak), Block I, Orahiri Survey District; thence easterly
along that straight line to Trig. Station T; thence north-
westerly along a straight line in the direction of a point in the
middle of the Awaroa River due west of the southernmost
corner of Scenic Reserve 10, Block XI, Kawhia North Survey
District, to its intersection with the northern boundary of
Section 7, Block I, Orahiri Survey District, being the point of
commencement.
