Varying a Proclamation Declaring Parts of New Zealand
to be a Tribal District Under the Maori Social and
Economic Advancement Act 1945

A PROCLAMATION
PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 6 of the Maori
Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945, I, Major-
General the Right Honourable Sir Harold Eric Barrowclough,
the Administrator of the Government of New Zealand,
hereby vary a Proclamation dated 18 November 1947 and
published in the Gazette on 8 January 1948, at page 7,
declaring parts of New Zealand to be a Tribal District under
the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act 1945, by
deleting from the Schedule thereto the description of the
Tuwharetoe No. 4 Tribal District, and substituting therefor
the description appearing in the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE
“TUWHARETOA NO. 2 TRIBAL DISTRICT
“ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded
by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth
of the Whanganui Stream in Block IX, Karangahape
Survey District; then proceeding south-westerly along a
straight line to Trig. Station Te Putu in Block XII, Puketapu
Survey District, and a straight line to Trig. Station XVII
(Waituhi) in Block XIV, Puketapu Survey District; then
north-westerly along a straight line to the north-eastern
corner of Hauhungaroa No. 9 Block; then in a north-
easterly direction along a straight line to the source of the
Ongarue River and a straight line to Pureora Trig. Station
in Block III, Hurakia Survey District; then north-westerly
along a straight line in the direction of Trig. Station Rangi-
toto in Block IV, Pakaumanu Survey District, to the southern
boundary of Maraeroa A No. 3B 2 Block; then easterly
along that boundary to the south-eastern corner of the said
Maraeroa A No. 3B 2 Block; then south-easterly along a
straight line in the direction of Trig. Station 1774 (Titirau-
penga) in Block I, Maretiri Survey District, to the south-
eastern boundary of Pouakani B 9A Block; then north-
easterly along that boundary to and along the south-eastern
boundary of Pouakani C 1A Block to the north-eastern
boundary of the said block; then north-westerly along that
boundary and its production to the middle of the Mihianga
Stream; then down the middle of that stream, to and down
the middle of the Mangakino Stream, to and down the
middle of the Waikato River to its confluence with the
Waipapa River; then easterly along a straight line to Trig.
Station F (Ngautuku) in Block VI, Te Atiamuri Survey
District; then south-easterly along a straight line to the
confluence of the Whangapoa Stream with the Waikato River;
then up the middle of the Waikato River to its confluence
with the Torepatutahi Stream, being a point on the boundary
of the Tuwharetoa No. 1 Tribal District hereinbefore
described; then in a generally south-westerly direction along
the boundary of that tribal district to a point on a straight
line between Rangatira Point in Block V, Tauhara Survey
District, and Te Rangawha Point in Block III, Tokaanu
Survey District, due south of Te Kahui Point in Block V,
Tuhingamata East Survey District; then south-westerly along
the last-mentioned straight line to its intersection with a
straight line between Trig. Station G in Block V, Tokaanu
Survey District and Trig. Station 2007 in Block XI, Marotiri
Survey District; then north-westerly along the last-mentioned
straight line to a point on the production of a straight line
from Trig. Station 1541 (Te Putu) to the mouth of the
Whanganui Stream; then south-westerly along the said pro-
duction to the mouth of the Whanganui Stream, the point of
commencement.”
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Administrator
of the Government, and issued under the Seal of New
Zealand, this 29th day of May 1956.

the Administrator of the Government of New Zealand, hereby
vary a Proclamation dated 18 November 1947 and published

SCHEDULE
“TUWHARETOA NO. 4 TRIBAL DISTRICT
“ALL that area situated in the Auckland and Wellington Land
Districts bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station
Ruapehu in Block XI, Ruapehu Survey District; then pro-
ceeding northerly generally along a straight line to Trig.
Station Paretetaitonga in Block XI, aforesaid, a straight line
to Trig. Station D (Ngauruhoe) in Block XVI, Tongariro
Survey District, a straight line to Trig. Station Mangatepopo
in Block VII, Tongariro Survey District, and a straight line
to the confluence of the Mangatepopo Stream with the
Wanganui River; then down the middle of the Wanganui
River to and up the middle of the Waipari Stream to its
source in Block XIV, Puketapu Survey District; then north-
easterly along a straight line to Trig. Station XVII (Waituhi)
in Block XIV aforesaid, a straight line passing through the
middle of the mouth of the Whanganui Stream to its inter-
section with a straight line between Trig. Station G in Block
V, Tokaanu Survey District, and Trig. Station 2007 in Block
XI, Marotiri Survey District; then south-easterly along the
last-mentioned straight line to its intersection with a straight
line between Rangitiri Point in Block V, Tauhara Survey
District, and Te Rangawha Point in Block III, Tokaanu
Survey District, then along the last-mentioned straight line
to a point due west of the mouth of the Hinemaiaia Stream,
being a point on the boundary of the Tuwharetoa No. 1
Tribal District, hereinbefore described; then south-easterly
generally along that district boundary to and down the
middle of the Ngaruroro River to its intersection with a
straight line between Trig. Station 65A in Block XXI, Kaweka
Survey District, and Trig. Station 26 (Tawakitohunga) in
Block XII, Mangamare Survey District; then westerly
generally along the said straight line to Trig. Station 26
aforesaid, along a straight line to Trig Station 27 (Motumatai)
in Block XV, Mangamare Survey District, and along a
straight line to Trig. Station 28 (Manukaiapu) in Block XVI,
Kaimanawa Survey District; then southerly along a straight
line to Trig. Station Te Rotete in Block III, Moawhango
Survey District, and a straight line to Trig. Station Auahito-
tara in Block XI, Moawhango Survey District; then westerly
along a straight line to Trig. Station Totem in Block X,
Moawhango Survey District, and a straight line to the
junction of the Waiouru–Moawhango Road and the Waiouru
Road in Block IX, Moawhango Survey District; then north-
westerly along a straight line to Trig. Station Ruapehu, the
point of commencement.”

A PROCLAMATION
PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928, I, Major-
General the Right Honourable Sir Harold Eric Barrow-
clough, the Administrator of the Government of New Zealand,
hereby proclaim and declare that the Crown land described
in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart for a post office;
and I also declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on
and after the 11th day of June 1956.
SCHEDULE
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of Crown land set apart: 1·5
perches.
Being part closed road.
Situated in Block XI, Mangamuka Survey District, Auckland
R.D. (S.O. 39361.)
In the North Auckland Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 150449
deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington,
and thereon coloured blue.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Administrator
of the Government, and issued under the Seal of New
Zealand, this 31st day of May 1956.
