No. XII on that boundary; thence south-easterly along the watershed through Flower Pot and Marquee to Trig. County of Kawhia Abolished, Boundaries of Counties of Otorohanga and Waitomo Altered, and Kawhia Harbour Board Dissolved

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 23rd day of March 1956
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, the Local Government Commission has approved as final a scheme bearing date the 12th day of January 1956 providing for the abolition of the County of Kawhia, the alteration of the boundaries of the Counties of Otorohanga and Waitomo to include therein the area comprising the County of Kawhia, and the dissolution of the Kawhia Harbour Board, and making supplementary provision incidental thereto:
And whereas it is deemed expedient to give effect to the final scheme as hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares:

That, as from the 31st day of March 1956, the County of Kawhia shall be abolished and the Kawhia County Council shall be dissolved.

(a) That, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, the area described in the First Schedule hereto, being portion of the County of Kawhia, shall be included in the County of Otorohanga and shall form an additional riding of that county by the name of the Kawhia North Riding.
(b) That the boundaries of the County of Otorohanga as so altered shall be those described in the Second Schedule hereto.
(c) That the Kawhia North Riding of the County of Otorohanga shall be represented on the council of that county by one member and for that purpose the number of members of that council shall be increased, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, from seven to eight.
- (a) That, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, the area described in the Third Schedule hereto, being the remainder of the County of Kawhia, shall be included in the County of Waitomo and shall form an additional riding of that county by the name of the Kawhia South Riding.
(b) That the boundaries of the County of Waitomo as so altered shall be those described in the Fourth Schedule hereto.
(c) That the Kawhia South Riding of the County of Waitomo shall be represented on the council of that county by one member and for that purpose the number of members of that council shall be increased, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, from nine to ten.

That the first election of the member to represent the Kawhia North Riding on the Council of the County of Otorohanga and the first election of the member to represent the Kawhia South Riding on the Council of the County of Waitomo shall be held on the day fixed by law for the next triennial general election of members of County Councils.

That, until the members elected as aforesaid come into office, one member of the Kawhia County Council, to be chosen by that council, shall represent the Kawhia North Riding on the Council of the County of Otorohanga and a further member of the Kawhia County Council, to be chosen by that council, shall represent the Kawhia South Riding on the Council of the County of Waitomo. For the purpose of choosing those representatives, but for no other purpose, the Kawhia County Council may continue in office after the 31st day of March 1956.

That, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, the Kawhia Harbour Board shall be dissolved.
FIRST SCHEDULE
AREA INCLUDED IN COUNTY OF OTOROHANGA
ALL that area of approximately 162 square miles bounded by a line commencing at a point on the western boundary of the Waitomo County, being the north-eastern corner of Lot 2, D.P. 12587, being part of Section 4, Block VIII, Kawhia South Survey District, and running westerly generally along the northern boundary of the aforesaid Lot 2, the northern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 12587, of the aforesaid Section 4, along a right line across the Mahoe-Awaroa road, to and along the northern boundaries of Sections 4 and 4A, Block VII, of the aforesaid Survey District, the northern boundary of Lot 5A, D.P. 7462, being part of Taumatatotara No. 1C 2 and Hauturu West No. G2 No. 2B 2 Block, and along a right line, being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of a public road; thence along the middle of that public road forming the northern boundary generally of the western portion of the aforesaid Lot 5A to and along the north-eastern, north-western, and south-western boundaries of Section 6 of the aforesaid Block VII, the northern boundary of Lot 8A, and the northern and western boundaries of Lot 7, both lots being as shown on D.P. 7463 and both being parts of Taumatatotara Nos. 1C 2 and 2C Blocks, crossing an intervening public road, to and along the northern boundary of Section 1, Block VI, of the aforesaid Kawhia South Survey District, to the eastern boundary of Section 13 of the said Block VI; thence northerly generally along the eastern boundary of the said Section 13, the eastern boundary of Section 14, Block VI aforesaid, the eastern boundary of Section 7, Block II, of the aforesaid Survey District, to and along the south-eastern boundary of Section 6 of Block II aforesaid, the eastern side of a public road and an arm of the Waiharakeke Stream, to and along the line of mean high water along the south-western and north-eastern shores of the Waiharakeke Inlet, the eastern and northern shores generally of the Kawhia Harbour, to and northerly, easterly, and southerly along the boundaries of the Kawhia County as described in Gazette No. 57, of the 28th day of August 1952, page 1410, to the point of commencement.
