Borough of Opunake Abolished and Boundaries of County
of Egmont Altered

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 21st day of March 1956
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, the Local Government Commission has approved as final a scheme bearing date the 6th day of January 1956 providing for the abolition of the Borough of Opunake and the inclusion of the area comprising that borough in the County of Egmont and making supplementary provision incidental thereto:
And whereas it is deemed expedient to give effect to the final scheme as hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares:
(1) That, as from the 31st day of March 1956, the Borough of Opunake shall be abolished and the Opunake Borough Council shall be dissolved.
(2) That, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, the area comprising the Borough of Opunake shall be included in the County of Egmont and shall form an additional riding of that county by the name of the Opunake Riding.
(3) That the boundaries of the County of Egmont as so altered shall be those described in the First Schedule hereto and the boundaries of the Opunake Riding of that county shall be be those described in the Second Schedule hereto.
(4) That the Opunake Riding of the County of Egmont shall be represented on the council of that county by three members and for that purpose the number of members of that council shall be increased, as on and from the 1st day of April 1956, from nine to twelve.
(5) That the first election of the members to represent the Opunake Riding on the Council of the County of Egmont shall be held on the day fixed by law for the next triennial general elections of members of county councils.
(6) That, until the members elected as aforesaid come into office, the Opunake Riding shall be represented on the Council of the County of Egmont by three members of the Opunake Borough Council to be chosen by that council, and for the purpose of making that choice, but for no other purpose, the Opunake Borough Council may continue in office after the 31st day of March 1956.
(7) The provisions of section 32 (1) of the Counties Act 1920 shall apply to the abolition of the Borough of Opunake and to the inclusion of the area comprising that borough in the County of Egmont in all respects as if the borough had been merged in the county and the references in that section to a town district and to a town board were references to a borough and a borough council respectively.
(8) (a) That, from the 31st day of March 1956, the Opunake Urban Fire District shall be abolished.
(b) That on the 1st day of April 1956 the urban area of Opunake, being the Opunake Riding of the County of Egmont as described in the Second Schedule hereto, shall be constituted an urban fire district by the name of the Opunake Urban Fire District.
(c) That, until the next triennial appointment and election of members of fire committees, the members of the fire committee of the district hereby abolished shall be members of the fire committee of the district hereby constituted.
(d) That, except as otherwise provided herein, the constitution of the Opunake Urban Fire District shall be deemed to have been effected under the Fire Services Act 1949.
FIRST SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF EGMONT
ALL that area in the Taranaki Land District bounded by a line commencing at the summit of Mount Egmont and proceeding southerly along a right line to the middle of Auroa Road at its junction with Forest Road; thence southerly along the middle of that road to the southern boundary of Block IX, Kaupokonui Survey District; thence westerly along that boundary to the eastern boundary of Section 30, Block XIV, Opunake Survey District; thence southerly along the eastern boundaries of Sections 30, 31, 32, and 33, Block XIV, and westerly along the southern boundary of Section 33, Block XIV, to the western boundary of Section 39, Block XIV, Opunake Survey District; thence southerly along that boundary and its production to the southern side of Skeet Road; thence easterly along that side to the middle of the Oeo River; thence southerly down the middle of that river to a point in line with the southern boundary of Section 1, being part of Section 24, Block II, Oeo Survey District; thence easterly to and along that boundary and southerly along the western boundary of subdivision C of Section 1, Block II, and its production to the southern side of South Road; thence south-easterly along that side to the western boundary of subdivision F of Sections 2, Block II, and 4, Block III, Oeo Survey District; thence southerly along that boundary to the sea coast; thence north-westerly and northerly along the sea coast to the northern boundary of Section 26, Block IV,
Cape Survey District; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the western side of Coast Road; thence along a right line to the middle of Puniho Road at its junction with Coast Road; thence south-easterly along the middle of Puniho Road to the western boundary of Egmont National Park; thence along a right line to the summit of Mount Egmont, the point of commencement.
SECOND SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF OPUNAKE RIDING OF COUNTY OF EGMONT
ALL that area in the Taranaki Land District, Egmont County, bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of Section 35, Block IX, Opunake Survey District, and proceeding south-easterly along the southern boundary of that section to the right bank of the Waiaua Stream; thence south-westerly along that bank to the sea coast; thence north-westerly along the sea coast to the left bank of the Otahi Stream; thence north-easterly along that bank to the south-western corner of the said Section 35, the point of commencement.

Boundaries of City of Wanganui and County of Wanganui Altered

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 21st day of March 1956
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, the Local Government Commission has approved as final a scheme bearing date the 12th day of January 1956 providing for the exclusion of the areas described in the Schedule to the said scheme from the County of Wanganui and the inclusion of those areas in the City of Wanganui:
And whereas it is deemed expedient to give effect to the final scheme as hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares that as on and from the 1st day of April 1956 the areas described in the Schedule hereto shall be excluded from the County of Wanganui and included in the City of Wanganui; and with the like advice and consent hereby also declares that the alteration of boundaries of the said county and the said city hereinbefore made shall be deemed to have been effected under the Municipal Corporations Act 1954.
SCHEDULE
AREAS EXCLUDED FROM COUNTY OF WANGANUI AND INCLUDED IN CITY OF WANGANUI
ALL that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the left bank of the Wanganui River, on the production of the middle line of Pauls Road; thence south-easterly to and along the middle line of that road to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Lot 7 as shown on the plan numbered 9876 deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Wellington; thence south-westerly to and along that boundary to the northern-most corner of the land as shown on the plan numbered 5408 deposited as aforesaid, being a point on the boundary of the City of Wanganui as described in Gazette 1955, page 1159; thence south-westerly and north-westerly along the boundary of the City of Wanganui to a point on the left bank of the Wanganui River, in line with the north-eastern boundary of the land as shown on the plan numbered 18146 lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Wellington; thence north-easterly up the left bank of the Wanganui River to a point on the production of the middle line of Pauls Road, being the point of commencement.
Also all that area in the Wellington Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the south-eastern boundary of Lot 1 as shown on the plan numbered 17997 deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Wellington, distant 250 links from the south-eastern side of No. 3 Line, the said point being a point on the boundary of the City of Wanganui, as described in Gazette 1955, page 1159; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundaries of Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 as shown on the plan numbered 17997 aforesaid, to a point distant 250 links from the north-eastern side of Turoa Road, the said point being a point on the boundary of the City of Wanganui as described in Gazette 1955, page 1159; thence north-easterly generally along the boundary of the City of Wanganui, to a point on the south-eastern boundary of Lot 1 aforesaid, being the point of commencement.
