Defining Maori Land Court Districts

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 29th day of February 1956
Present:
His Excellency The Governor-General In Council
PURSUANT to section 23 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953,
His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby
makes the following order.
ORDER
- (1) This order may be cited as the Maori Land Court
Districts Order 1956.
(2) This order shall come into force on the day after the
date of its publication in the Gazette. - The Maori Land Court districts constituted by Order in
Council made on the 24th day of March 1914 and published
in the Gazette of the 27th day of March 1914 at page 1211
are hereby abolished and the said Order in Council is hereby
revoked. - (1) New Zealand is hereby divided into the Maori Land
Court districts referred to in the Schedule to this order.
(2) The name of each Maori Land Court district shall be
the name appearing in the Schedule to this order at the head
of the description of that district.
SCHEDULE
THE TOKERAU MAORI LAND COURT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the North Auckland Land District bounded
by a line commencing at the North Cape on the North Auckland peninsula, and running south-easterly generally along
the sea coast to the middle of the Waiwera River, being a
point on the northern boundary of the County of Waitemata;
thence westerly generally along that northern boundary, being
a line running up the middle of the Waiwera River aforesaid,
to and along the northern boundary of the Parish of Waiwera,
and the eastern and northern boundaries of the Parish of
Makarau, and down the left banks of the Rauhori Stream,
the Makarau River, and the Ngapuke Creek, to and along
the generally southern and south-western shores of the Kaipara Harbour, and the southern shores of the Kaipara
Entrance, to the sea coast; thence generally north-westerly
and then easterly along the sea coast to the point of commencement; and including Great Barrier Island and the islands
adjacent to the coast line between Great Barrier Island and
the North Cape; but excluding therefrom the island situated
in the Kaipara Harbour known as Kukutango.
THE WAIKATO-MANIAPOLO MAORI LAND COURT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the North Auckland, South Auckland, and
Taranaki Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at a
point on the shores of the Hauraki Gulf, being the middle of
the mouth of the Waiwera River, and running generally
south-easterly along the sea coast to the easternmost corner of
Block I, Katikati North Survey District (Ngakuriawhare);
thence generally southerly along the confiscation boundary
line, being a right line running in the direction of Trig. Station
No. 567 (Te Aroha), to and along the eastern boundaries of
the Counties of Piako and Matamata, being a series of lines
following the original eastern boundary of Aroha Block as
shown on M.L. Plan 3062 (lodged in the Survey Office, at
Auckland), through State forests in Blocks XI and VII, Katakatl Survey District, and Block X, Aongatete Survey District,
to and along the generally eastern boundaries of Section 20,
Block III, Wairere Survey District, Waiharakeke East Block
(now subdivided), Maurihoro B and A Blocks, and Okauia
No. 1 Block, to Trig. Station No. 909 (Waianuanu) at the
easternmost corner of Block XVI, Wairere Survey District;
thence along a right line to Trig. Station No. 146 (Te
Weraiti), at the westernmost corner of Block IV, Opoutahi
Survey District; thence along the south-western boundaries of
Mangatotara Nos. 3B 2B and 3B 2A Blocks, to and along the
north-western boundary of Section 60, Selwyn Settlement, to
and along the generally northern boundary of Whaiti-Kuranui
No. 6A Block (now subdivided), down the right bank of the
Okoroire Stream, and across the Waihou River, to and along
the generally south-eastern boundary of the Matamata Settlement, to the southernmost corner of Section 129 of that
Settlement, in Block XVI, Cambridge Survey District; thence
along a right line bearing 225 degrees to and up the left bank
of the Waikato River, to and along the south-eastern boundary, through Block XVI, Wharepapa Survey District, of
Wharepuhunga No. 19 Block, to the southernmost corner of
that last-mentioned block; thence along a right line to and
along the eastern boundaries of Wharepuhunga Nos. 17A and
part 20 Blocks, to and along a series of lines through Section
2, Block VII, Ranginui Survey District, Wharepuhunga-Pouakani Block, Wharepuhunga-Pouakani-Maraeroa Block,
and Section 3, Block X, Ranginui Survey District (the said
series of lines follow the generally south-eastern boundaries of
part Wharepuhunga No. 20 Block aforesaid and of Wharepuhunga Nos. 13, 10, 8, and 6 Blocks, as shown on M.L. Plan
9912 lodged at Auckland as aforesaid), to the southernmost
corner of the said No. 6 Block (Tapararoa); thence along
the south-eastern boundary of Rangitoto B Block and the
generally eastern boundaries of Maraeroa B No. 3A and B
No. 2 Blocks, to and along the north-eastern boundary of
Maraeroa C Block, along a right line being that boundary
produced to the middle of the Paruho Stream, and down the
middle of that stream to the middle of the Ongarue River;
thence westerly generally along the northern boundary of the
County of Taumarunui, being a line running down the middle
of the said Ongarue River to a point in line with the eastern
boundary of Rangitoto Tuhua No. 54 A 2 Block in Block V,
Hurakia Survey District; thence along a right line to and
along that boundary, along the eastern and northern boundaries of Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 36A 1B 2B Block (now subdivided), the eastern and northern boundaries of RangitotoTuhua No. 37B 3 Block, the northern boundary of Rangitoto
Tuhua No. 37B 4 Block, the northern and western boundaries
of part Rangitoto Tuhua No. 37B 5 Block, and the western
boundary of Rangitoto Tuhua No. 37B 1 Block, to and along
the northern and western boundaries of Lot 1 of Section 2,
Block III, Pahi Survey District, and the western boundary of
Section 1 of the said Block III, to and along the generally
northern boundary of Rangitoto Tuhua No. 78B Block (now
subdivided), to the middle of the North Island Main Trunk
Railway; thence southerly along the middle of that railway
to a point in Block III, Tangitu Survey District, in line with
the south-western boundary of Rangitoto Tuhua No. 77B
1B 2C Block; thence along a right line to and along that
boundary and along another right line being that boundary
produced to the middle of the Ongarue River aforementioned;
thence again down the middle of that river to the south-eastern
corner of Block III, Tangitu Survey District aforementioned;
thence again westerly along the northern boundaries of the
Counties of Ohura and Clifton, being a line running along
the southern boundaries of Blocks III, II, and I, Tangitu
Survey District, to the easternmost corner of Section 6, Block
IV, Aria Survey District; thence along the south-eastern
boundary of that section, the eastern and southern boundaries
of Section 8 of the said Block IV, the southern boundary of
Section 7, Block IV aforesaid, and the eastern boundary of
Section 1, Block VIII, Aria Survey District, to and along the
northern boundaries of Blocks VIII and VII, and the eastern
and southern boundaries of Block VI, all of Aria Survey
District, to the Puketawai Trig. Station; thence along the
southern and western boundaries of Section 9 and the southern
boundaries of Sections 6 and 15, all of the last-mentioned
Block VI, and along a right line being that last-mentioned
boundary produced to the western side of the Waitewhena
Road; thence along that side of the said road to and along
the southern and western boundaries of Section 8, the southern
boundaries of Sections 3 and 2, and the eastern and southern
boundaries of Section 11, all of Block V, Aria Survey District, to the western boundary of the Aria Survey District;
thence southerly along that boundary to and down the middle
of the Panirau Stream, and down the middle of the Mokau
River, to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of
part Section 3 (Scenic Reserve), Block III, Mokau Survey
District; thence along a right line to and along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of the said part Section
3, the eastern and southern boundaries of part Lot 13, D.P.
3049 (Taranaki Land Registry), the southern boundary of
Lot 7, D.P. 3836 (Taranaki Land Registry), the southern and
western boundaries of Lot 6 and the southern boundary of
Lot 5, both on the said D.P. 3836, and along a right line
being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle
of the Mokau River, thence down the middle of that river
to the sea coast; thence northerly generally along the sea
coast to the southern boundary of the Tokerau Maori Land
Court District as hereinbefore described, at the entrance to the
Kaipara Harbour; thence easterly along that boundary of the
said Tokerau Maori Land Court District to the point of
commencement; and including Kukutango Island in the Kaipara Harbour, Waiheke Island, and the islands adjacent to
the coast line between Cape Rodney and the Whangamata
Harbour.
THE WAIARIKI MAORI LAND COURT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the South Auckland and Gisborne Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at a point on the shores
of the Bay of Plenty, being the easternmost corner of Block I,
Katikati North Survey District (Ngakuriawhare), and running
generally easterly along the sea coast to a point where
the western boundary of Wharekahika Block meets the mean
high-water mark of the sea (Potikirua); thence southerly
generally by the western boundaries of Wharekahika Block,
Sections 1 and 2, Block X, Matakaoa Survey District, and
Tapatu Waitangirua 2D Block, State forest, formerly Section 1
and Section 2, Block I, Mangaoparo Survey District; thence
westerly by the northern boundaries of part Waiorongomai
Block and a State forest to Pakira Trig. Station, situated where
the boundaries of Block I, Mangaoparo, and Blocks VII and
VIII, Raukumara East Survey Districts meet; thence south-westerly by a right line to a point being the north-western
corner of Maungaparahi Block, Block VII, Raukumara East
Survey District; thence south-westerly by the north-western
boundaries of said Maungaparahi Block, Lots 1, 4, and 5,
D.P. 2663, to Honokawa Trig. Station, situated at the south-western corner of aforesaid Lot 5, D.P. 2663, Block X, Raukumara East Survey District; thence south-westerly generally
by a leading range being the southern boundaries of Raukumara East and Maungawaru Survey Districts to Purahotakaha
Trig. Station, situated on the common boundary between
Block III, Maungawaru, and Block XV, Haparapara Survey
Districts; thence south-westerly by the north-western boundaries of Blocks III and II, Maungawaru Survey District, to
