Board of Trade Notice No. 117—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Carpet Sweepers and Floor Polishers, etc.

  1. (a) The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed on goods covered by Tariff Item 419 (1).
    (b) The Board will also inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed on any materials used in the manufacture of the above goods.
    (c) Persons interested may obtain from the office of any Collector of Customs details of the goods admitted under this tariff item, and of the rates of import duty applicable thereto.
  2. During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether such of the goods in question as are now subject to import licensing should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing, and in respect of such of the goods in question as are already exempt whether import licensing should be imposed in respect of any of them.
  3. For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of this tariff item, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 10 April 1956, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.
  4. Any person who intends to tender evidence may obtain from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undernamed the notes for the guidance of witnesses (2nd edition) which have been approved by the Board.
  5. A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered should be lodged with the undernamed on or before Tuesday, 27 March 1956. Each statement will in general need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

  1. (a) The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed on goods (excluding condensers) covered by Tariff Item 338 (2) (a) and (b).
    (b) The Board will also inquire into and report upon what rates of import duty should be imposed on any materials used in the manufacture of the above goods.
    (c) Persons interested may obtain from the office of any Collector of Customs details of the goods admitted under these tariff items, and of the rates of import duty applicable thereto.

Notice of Result of Poll

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act 1926, I hereby given notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Hastings, taken on the 1st day of December 1955, on the proposal of the Hastings Borough Council to borrow the sum of £60,000 for the purpose of completing the purchase of a site for the erection of the Hastings and District War Memorial, the voting was as follows:

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was 1,000
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 1,581
I therefore declare that the proposal was lost.

Reporoa Riding War Memorial Hall £7,000 Loan Proposal—Result of Poll

PURSUANT to section 13 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act 1926, I hereby given notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Reporoa Riding of the County of Rotorua, taken on the 10th day of December 1955, on the proposal of the Rotorua County Council to borrow the sum of £7,000 for the purpose of erecting a War Memorial Hall at Reporoa:

The number of votes recorded for the proposal was ..... 242
The number of votes recorded against the proposal was 76
I therefore declare that the proposal was carried.
