Boundaries of the Borough of Ashburton, the County of Ashburton, and the Ashburton, Upper Ashburton, and Wakanui Ridings of the County of Ashburton Redefined

PURSUANT to section 26 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Borough of Ashburton, and the County of Ashburton, and the Ashburton, Upper Ashburton, and Wakanui Ridings of the County of Ashburton, the previous boundaries having been altered by Orders in Council dated 11 November 1954 and 28 March 1955, and published in Gazette, 18 November 1954, No. 69, page 1794, and 31 March 1955, No. 25, page 588, respectively.

SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF THE BOROUGH OF ASHBURTON

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the north-western side of West Street and the south-western side of Racecourse Road; thence southerly generally across West Street, to and along the eastern boundary of Reserve 2909 (South Island Main Trunk Railway) and the north-western side of East Street to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Reserve 2471; thence to and along that boundary and the south-western boundary of Reserve 2344, to and across Bridge Street and along the south-western side of Tuarangi Road to a point distant 250 links from the south-eastern side of Bridge Street; thence south-westerly along a line parallel to and 250 links distant from the south-eastern side of Bridge Street to the westernmost corner of Lot 6, D.P. 13311; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of Lot 6, D.P. 13311 aforesaid, to the north-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 10505; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the northernmost corner of Lot 2, D.P. 10505; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of Lot 2, D.P. 10505 aforesaid, and its production to the north-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 11462; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 11462 aforesaid, to its northernmost corner; thence again south-easterly along the north-eastern boundaries of Lots 1, 2, and 3, D.P. 11462, to the easternmost corner of the last-mentioned lot; thence by a right line to the northernmost corner of Lot 4, D.P. 11462; thence along the north-eastern boundaries of Lots 4 and 5, D.P. 11462, to the north-western boundary of Lot 6, D.P. 988, being 250 links distant from the north-eastern side of Princess Street; thence south-westerly along that boundary to the north-eastern side of Albert Street; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern side of Albert Street to a point in line with the south-eastern side of Trevors Road; thence south-westerly to and along that roadside and its production to the left bank of the Ashburton River; thence north-westerly generally along the left bank of that river to a point 1 chain south of the southern side of the State Highway Traffic Bridge over the Ashburton River; thence south-westerly along a line parallel to the southern side of that bridge to the right bank of the Ashburton River; thence south-easterly generally along the right bank of that river to its intersection with a line parallel to and distant 23 chains from the south-eastern side of Grove Street; thence south-westerly along the said right line and its production to the middle of Hassal Street; thence northerly along the middle of Hassal Street to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Reserve 1429; thence to and along that boundary and its production across the South Island Main Trunk Railway to the north-western side of Melcombe Street; thence north-easterly along the north-western side of that street to the easternmost corner of Section 1, subdivision of Reserve 250; thence northerly by a right line being the shortest distance across Maronan Road to the southern boundary of part Reserve 2378; thence westerly along that boundary to the eastern boundary of Tinwald Domain, as described in New Zealand Gazette, No. 53, of 12 July 1951; thence northerly along that boundary and its production to the northern side of the Springburn Branch Railway; thence easterly along the northern side of that railway to the western boundary of Reserve 2064; thence northerly along that boundary and its production across Lagrnor Street to the southern boundary of part Reserve 2378, being part of Tinwald Domain aforesaid; thence easterly and north-easterly along the southern and south-eastern boundaries of part Reserve 2378 (Tinwald Domain), to the south-western boundary of Lot 10, D.P. 1494; thence north-westerly along that boundary and the south-western boundary of Lot 11, D.P. 1494, and its production to the middle of Tarbottons Road; thence north-easterly along the middle of that road to the middle of Buckleys Terrace; thence south-easterly along the middle of Buckleys Terrace to a point in line with the northern boundary of Rural Section 23096; thence north-easterly to and along that boundary and its production to the right bank of the Ashburton River; thence south-easterly along the right bank of that river to a point 1 chain north of the northern side of the State Highway Traffic Bridge; thence north-easterly along a line parallel to the northern side of that bridge to the left bank of the Ashburton River; thence northerly generally along the left bank of that river, across the South Island Main Trunk Railway, to and along the south-eastern and eastern boundaries of Reserve 4605, the south-western boundaries of Lots 1, 2, 3, and 4, D.P. 2774, to and along the southern and western boundaries of Rural Section 23417 and the western boundaries of
