Authorizing Glenorchy Motors Limited to Use Water for the Purpose of Generating Electricity and to Erect Electric Lines and Revoking a Previous Licence

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 26th day of April 1955

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. S. G. HOLLAND PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby grants to Glenorchy Motors Limited, a duly incorporated company having its registered office at Glenorchy (hereinafter referred to as the licensee), a licence subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth to take and use from a water-race leading from Stone Creek, situated in Run 346p, Glenorchy Survey District, County of Lake, for the purpose hereinafter set forth a stream of water not exceeding five cubic feet per second at any one time, and to lay, construct, put up, place, and use the electric lines described in the Schedule hereto; and further, hereby revokes the Order in Council dated the 12th day of May 1948, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the 20th day of the same month, at page 573, authorizing Lawrence Ivan Smith, of Glenorchy, Garage Proprietor, to use water for the purpose of generating electricity and to erect certain electric lines.

CONDITIONS

IMPLIED CONDITIONS

  1. The conditions directed to be implied in all licences by the Water Power Regulations 1934 and the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935 shall be incorporated in and shall form part of this licence, except in so far as the same may be inconsistent with the provisions hereof.

LICENCE SUBJECT TO REGULATIONS

  1. This licence is issued under the Water Power Regulations 1934, and is subject thereto and to the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935, the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1935, and the Radio Interference Regulations 1934, and to all regulations hereafter made in amendment thereof or in substitution therefor respectively.

UTILIZATION OF WATER AND LOCATION OF HEADWORKS

  1. Water shall be used under this licence solely for the purpose of generating electricity and shall be taken from the said water-race at the point in Run 346p, Glenorchy Survey District, indicated on the plan marked S.H.D. 315, deposited in the office of the State Hydro-electric Department at Wellington.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORKS

  1. The licensee is hereby authorized, subject to the conditions hereof, to construct, maintain, and use the following works for the purposes of this licence, the positions of the said works being indicated on the said plan S.H.D. 315:

(a) Headworks consisting of a dam and intake with a pipe-line leading to the turbine and powerhouse hereinafter referred to, giving a static head of approximately 300 ft.:

(b) Water turbine and powerhouse with all necessary equipment for generating electricity, situated on the banks of Buckler Burn, in Block IV, Glenorchy Survey District:

(c) Tail-race leading from the said powerhouse into Buckler Burn:

DURATION OF LICENCE

  1. Unless sooner lawfully determined, this licence shall continue in force until the 31st day of March 1969, or until electrical energy is available from an electric power board or some other public source of supply, whichever is the earlier.

SYSTEM OF SUPPLY

  1. The system of supply shall be as described in paragraphs (a) and (f) of regulation 21-01 of the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935.

RENTAL

  1. For the purpose of assessing the rental or annual sum payable in respect of this licence, the licensee may install a suitable maximum-demand indicator to the satisfaction of the Inspecting Engineer of the State Hydro-electric Department, and, failing such installation, the rental shall be determined on the maximum capacity of the generating plant installed. The present plant is rated at 95 kVA.

CHARGES ON SALE

  1. (1) The charges for electrical energy shall not exceed 6d. per unit.
    (2) Payment shall not be demanded from any consumer at intervals apart of less than twenty-one days.

NO RIGHT TO WATER CONFERRED

  1. Nothing in this licence shall be deemed to confer upon the licensee any right to water.

SCHEDULE

LINES for the supply of electrical energy by the system of supply hereinbefore described within and about the Township of Glenorchy in the County of Lake, within a radius of two miles from the centre of Argyle Square.

PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby consents to the assignment to Holland and Hannen and Cubitts (New Zealand) Limited, a duly incorporated company having its registered office at Wellington, and Conrad Zschokke, Société Anonyme, of Geneva, Switzerland, and Downer and Company Limited, a duly incorporated company having its registered office at Wellington, by the said Holland and Hannen and Cubitts (New Zealand) Limited, and the said Conrad Zschokke, Société Anonyme, of Geneva, Switzerland, of their rights, powers, and privileges under an Order in Council dated the 27th day of April 1953, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the 7th day of May 1953, at page 709, authorizing them to erect and use electric lines within portion of the County of Tuapeka.

Amending a Licence Authorizing the Otago Electric Power Board to Erect and Use Electric Lines Within the Otago Electric Power District and Portion of the Outer Area of That District

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 2nd day of May 1955

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. S. G. HOLLAND PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928 and the Electric Power Boards Act 1925, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby amends, as set forth in the Schedule hereto, the Order in Council dated the 17th day of June 1953 and published in the Gazette on the 18th day of the same month, at page 927, authorizing the Otago Electric Power Board to erect and use electric lines within the Otago Electric Power District and portion of the Outer Area of that district.

SCHEDULE

The second paragraph of clause 3 of the conditions thereof is revoked and the following paragraph is substituted therefor:

“The systems of supply shall be as described in paragraphs (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (h), and (j) of regulation 21-01 of the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935. The system of supply authorized under paragraph (j) aforesaid shall be a single conductor earth-return system at voltages of 6,600, 11,000, and 22,000. The use of the earth-return system of supply shall be subject to such terms and conditions as are from time to time laid down by the General Manager of the State Hydro-electric Department.”
