Board of Trade Notice No. 97—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Split Peas

The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under Tariff Item 5 (8) which reads as follows:
“‘Peas, split.’”
The present rates of import duty are:
British Preferential: ½d. per lb.*
General: ¾d. per lb.†
- Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
† Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider any representations which may be made in favour of the reimposition of import licensing over all or any of the goods in question.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of this tariff item, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 22 February 1955, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses (2nd edition) which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undernamed.

A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the undernamed on or before Tuesday, 8 February 1955. Each statement will in general need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

Board of Trade Notice No. 98—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Pearl Barley

The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under Tariff Item 5 (7) which reads as follows:
“‘Pearl Barley.’”
The present rates of import duty are:
British Preferential: ½d. per lb.*
General: ¾d. per lb.†
- Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
† Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether the goods in question should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing.

The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under Tariff Item 414 (2) which reads as follows:
“‘Plywood.’”
The present rates of import duty are:
British Preferential: 20%.*
General: 45%†.
- Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
† Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether the goods in question should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of this tariff item, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 19 April 1955, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

Board of Trade Notice No. 100—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Stereotypes, etc.

The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under the following tariff item:
Tariff Item 363: “‘Printers’ type and materials, viz.: (2) Stereotypes, electrotypes, matrices, half-tone, and line blocks.’”
The present rates of import duty in respect of this item are:
British Preferential: 20%.*
Australian Agreement: 30%.
General: 50%†.
- Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
† Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether the goods in question should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing.
