Notice to Mariners No. 62 of 1954

NEW ZEALAND—NORTH ISLAND—TAURANGA HARBOUR

Alteration to Port Information

THE following amendments are to be made to the New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide Tables 1954, Vol. 2:

Page 107—Pilotage: Substitute “Harbourmaster” for “Secretary”.

Page 108—Note—New Jetty: Amend 12,000 ft. to read 1,200 ft.

Page 108—Lower Anchorage: Delete this information, and substitute “A vessel wishing to anchor in the channel must obtain permission from the Harbourmaster.”

Page 110—Radio Telephone: Delete “Watches are maintained between 0900 to 1200 hrs.; 1300 to 1700 hrs.”, and substitute “0800 to 0815 hrs. and 1700 to 1715 hrs. An irregular watch will be kept from 1145 to 1200 hrs.”

Masters of inward bound vessels are requested to listen on 2182 kc/s. when within 3 miles of the harbour entrance for report on movement of overseas vessels in harbour. These reports will be broadcast from one hour prior to vessel’s departure at 15-minute intervals.

ATTENTION is drawn to Admiralty Notice to Mariners No. 1621, 24 July 1954, and accompanying blocks showing amendments to coastline in the vicinity of Motunau Is. This information is embodied in charts N.Z. 9 and N.Z. 10.

Notice to Mariners No. 64 of 1954

NEW ZEALAND—SOUTH ISLAND

Information about Rocks and Names

  1. (i) The symbol for a rock with less than 6 ft. of water over it is to be inserted in positions:

(a) 026½° 23.3 miles} from Kaikoura Peninsula light
(b) 030° 13.4 miles} (42° 25′ 20″ S., 173° 43′ 00″ E.
(c) 267° 4.1 miles} (approx.).

(ii) The name “Waipapa Pt.” (42° 10′ S., 173° 58′ E. (approx.)) is to be expunged.

(iii) The name “Waipapa Pt.” is to be inserted against the point in position 42° 12′ 35″ S., 173° 52′ 20″ E. (approx.) on chart 2529, in place of “Waipapa Landing Pl.”

  1. (i) Motunau: A shoal sounding of 3 fathoms is to be substituted for the danger circle “Shoal repd. (P.A.)” in position 43° 01′ S., 173° 10′ E. (approx.).

  2. Peraki Cove Approach—Rock: The symbol for a rock awash is to be inserted in position 252° 0.4 miles from Peraki Cove (Bay) S.E. entrance point (43° 52′ 50″ S., 172° 49′ 15″ E. (approx.)).

Charts affected: 1212 (1 (ii)); 2529 (1, 3); 2532 (3); 3629 (1, 3); 3634 (1 (ii), 2 (i)).
