Prison Proclaimed—Tongariro Prison Farm

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled the Prisons Act 1908 it is provided that the Governor-General may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a prison, and from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation or from any time later specified in the Proclamation such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed a prison:
Now, therefore, pursuant to section 4 of the Prisons Act 1908, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby declare that the areas of land described in the Schedule hereto, and all buildings and enclosures used or occupied thereon, shall, from and after the date of the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison, known as the Tongariro Prison Farm, within the meaning and for the purposes of the Prisons Act 1908.
SCHEDULE
ALL that area in the Wellington Land District containing by admeasurement 14,648 acres 2 roods, more or less, situated in Blocks X and XI, Puketi Survey District, Block II, Omoho Survey District, Blocks III, IV, and VIII, Pihanga Survey District, and Blocks I, II, V, and VI, Waiotaka Survey District, bounded by a line commencing at a point being the north-eastern corner of Hautu 4B 2B 1 Block and proceeding in an easterly direction along the southern side of the Taupo-Tokaanu Road to the left bank of the Waiotaka River; thence southerly along the left bank of the said river to a point opposite the north-western boundary of Section 3, Block XI, Puketi Survey District; thence easterly generally across the said river to and along the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Section 3 aforesaid and the south-eastern boundary of Section 4, Block XI, Puketi Survey District, to the eastern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of Hautu 1B 1B 2A Block to the northernmost corner of Hautu 2B 1B 2D Block; thence westerly and southerly generally along the north-western and south-western boundaries of Hautu 2B 1B 2D Block and the south-western boundary of part of Hautu 2B 1B 2E Block to the southern corner of the last-mentioned block; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of the southern portion of Hautu 2B 1B 1 Block to the southernmost corner of that block; thence by a right line bearing approximately 242° crossing the Waiotaka River to the eastern corner of Hautu 4B 2B 2B 2 Block; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned block and the eastern and northern boundaries of Hautu 4B 2B 2B 1 Block to the right bank of the Tongariro River; thence northerly generally along the right bank of the said river to the south-eastern side of the National Park—Taupo State Highway; thence along the south-eastern side of the said highway to the south-western corner of the Town of Taupahi Extension No. 2; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of the said town to the western boundary of Hautu 4B 2B 1 Block; thence easterly and northerly generally along the western, southern, and north-eastern boundaries of Hautu 4B 2B 1 Block to the north-eastern corner of the said block, the point of commencement, and excluding therefrom all public roads and the bed of the Waiotaka River, but subject to a Proclamation made under the provisions of section 14 of the Maori Land Amendment and Maori Land Claims Adjustment Act 1926 and published in New Zealand Gazette 1926, at page 2895, as amended by Proclamations published in New Zealand Gazette 1927, at page 500, and New Zealand Gazette 1952, at page 2037, reserving rights of way to holders of special licences.
Also all that area in the Wellington Land District containing by admeasurement 9,237 acres, more or less, situated in Blocks IV, VII, VIII, X, XI, XII, and XV, Pihanga Survey District, bounded by a line commencing at a point being the intersection of the right bank of the Poutu Stream with the left bank of the Tongariro River, being also the northernmost point of Rangipo North 2B Block, and proceeding south-easterly generally along the left bank of the Tongariro River to the Whitikau Stream; thence by a right line across the Tongariro River to and along the left bank of the Whitikau Stream to the Omarangai Stream; thence by a right line across the Whitikau Stream to and along the left bank of the Omarangai Stream to the north-western side of Hautu Road; thence south-westerly along the north-western side of the said road to the left bank of the Whitikau Stream; thence southerly along the left bank of that stream to the north-western boundary of Hautu 5B 2B 2 Block; thence south-westerly along the said north-western boundary to a point in line with the northern boundary of Rangipo North 2D 2 Block; thence westerly along a right line to and along that northern boundary, the northern boundary of Rangipo North 2D 3 Block, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the western side of the Waiouru—Turangi State Highway; thence southerly generally along the western side of the said highway to a point in line with the southern boundary of Rangipo North 3C Block; thence north-westerly along a right line to the southern corner of Rangipo North 2C 1 Block; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of Rangipo North 2C 1 and 2C 2 Blocks and across the National Park—Taupo State Highway and again along the south-eastern boundary of Rangipo North 2C 2 Block to the right bank of the Poutu Stream; thence northerly generally along the right bank of the said stream to its intersection with the left bank of the Tongariro River, the point of commencement, and excluding therefrom all public roads, but subject to a Proclamation made under the provisions of section 14 of the Maori Land Amendment and Maori Land Claims Adjustment Act 1926 and published in New Zealand Gazette 1926, at page 2895, as amended by Proclamations published in New Zealand Gazette 1927, at page 500, and New Zealand Gazette 1952, at page 2037, reserving rights of way to holders of special licences.
