Board of Trade Notice No. 88—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Road-graders and Earthmoving Machinery
- The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed on the goods mentioned hereunder included in the following tariff items:
Ex. Tariff Item 333 (3): Hydraulic loaders specially designed for farm use, for mounting on tractors.
Ex. Tariff Item 352 (b): Earthmoving machinery of classes manufactured in New Zealand.
Ex. Tariff Item 353 (8) (c): Earthmoving machinery of classes manufactured in New Zealand.
Tariff Item 366: Road-graders.
The present rates of import duty in respect of these items are:
Tariff Item 333 (3)—
British Preferential: 3%.
Canadian Agreement: 3%.
General: 3%.
Tariff Item 352 (b)—
British Preferential: Free.
Most Favoured Nation: 20%.
Switzerland: 20%.
General: 25%†.
Tariff Item 353 (8) (c)—
British Preferential: 20%.*
Australian Agreement: 30%.
Canadian Agreement: 30%.
General: 50%†.
Tariff Item 366—
British Preferential: 3%.
General: 20%†.
- Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India and Pakistan.
† Plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of the duty.
- During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider whether such of the goods in question as are now subject to import licensing should be exempted from the requirements of import licensing, and in respect of such of the goods in question as are already exempt, whether import licensing should be re-imposed in respect of any of them.
