Applicants and other persons considering themselves to be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should, not later than 1 July 1954, submit any written evidence and representations they may desire to tender. All communications should be addressed to Secretary, Bureau of Industry, C.P.O. Box 2492, Wellington.

Commercial Use of Royal Photographs

NOTICE is hereby given that the rules governing the incorporation of photographs or representations of Her Majesty the Queen or members of the Royal family in the design of articles for sale have been reviewed, and Her Majesty has now been pleased to approve the following new rules:

(1) No objection will be raised to the use of Royal photographs or representations provided—
(a) The article is not offensive to good taste.
(b) It is of a permanent nature.
(c) It is free from any advertisement, or implication that a particular firm has received Royal custom, or that the article has been purchased by a member of the Royal family.

(2) Permission to use a Royal photograph in the design extends only to the article itself and not to any case, cover, container, or label.

(3) Permission to use a Royal photograph in the design does not extend to—
(a) Articles of dress, except scarves and head squares.
(b) Household linen, etc., or furnishing materials.
(c) Any paper or other material which may be used for wrapping or packaging purposes, or to adhesive tape.
(d) Any kind of adhesive seal.
(e) An article which is used to assist the sale of any other article, for example, cigarette cards.

(4) For the present, photographs of the Duke of Cornwall and the Princess Anne may not be used.

(5) Where the word “photograph” has been used above, it may be read as including portraits.

(6) In the case of doubt about the application of these rules, reference should be made to the Secretary for Internal Affairs, Wellington. If any question of copyright is involved in the use of a Royal photograph or portrait the user must settle the matter with the copyright holder.

(7) The rules will be subject to review yearly.

(8) The decision to allow a wider use than formerly of Royal photographs and portraits in the design of articles for sale does not affect in any way the existing regulations restricting the use of the Royal Arms, the Royal Standard, the Royal Crown, the Royal Cypher, or other Royal emblems. Any inquiries on the use of these emblems should be made to the Secretary for Internal Affairs, Wellington.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953—Ohuora Development Scheme

PURSUANT to section 832 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 16 March 1938 and published in the Gazette on 24 March 1938 at page 523.
