Privy Council Meeting

At the Court at Government House, Wellington,
13 January 1954

This day HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN was pleased to hold
a Council at 11.30 a.m.

There were present:

HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH,
K.G., K.T.

The Right Honourable SIDNEY GEORGE HOLLAND, C.H., M.P.
(Prime Minister; acting for the Lord President).

The Right Honourable WALTER NASH, M.P. (Leader of Her
Majesty’s Opposition).

The Right Honourable Sir WILLIAM JOSEPH JORDAN, K.C.M.G.

The Right Honourable Sir MICHAEL EDWARD ADEANE, K.C.V.O.,
C.B.

HER MAJESTY, by the advice of Her Privy Council, was
pleased to order (the Clerk in Ordinary of the said
Council being absent) that Thomas James Sherrard, Esquire,
O.B.E., should, in respect of the business to be transacted at
this day’s Council, have and perform all the powers, duties,
and functions, and be in the place of, the Clerk of the Council
in Ordinary.

The Honourable Keith Jacka Holyoake, M.P. (Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture) and the Honour-
able Sir Harold Eric Barrowclough, K.C.M.G., C.B., D.S.O., M.C.
Chief Justice of New Zealand) were by Her Majesty’s
Command sworn of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy
Council, and took their place at the Board accordingly.

Setting Apart Maori Land as a Maori Reservation

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Court at Government House, Wellington, this 13th day
of January 1954

Present:

THE QUEEN’S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL.

PURSUANT to section 5 of the Maori Purposes Act 1937
and the Royal Powers Act 1953, Her Majesty the Queen,
acting by and with the advice and consent of Her Executive
Council, is pleased to set apart and reserve the Maori freehold
land described in the Schedule hereto for the common use of
the Uri o Kaiwhare hapu and other Maoris residing at
Waima, Hokianga, as a meeting place and marae.


SCHEDULE

LAND SET APART AS A MAORI RESERVATION

ALL that area in the North Auckland Land District containing
1 acre 24 perches, more or less, situated in Block VII, Waoku
Survey District, being Waima F 14 Block and being part of
the land formerly known as Whakatere-Manawakaiia B 12;
as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked
M.A. 21/3/272, deposited in the Head Office of the Department
of Maori Affairs, at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

Vesting a Reserve in the Lower Hutt City Council

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Court at Government House, Wellington, this 13th day
of January 1954

Present:

THE QUEEN’S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY IN COUNCIL

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto has
been duly set apart as a reserve for a site for a
community centre:

And whereas, in the opinion of Her Majesty, it is
expedient to vest the said reserve in the Mayor, Councillors,
and Citizens of the City of Lower Hutt:

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 9 of the Public
Reserves and Domains Act 1928 and the Royal Powers Act
1953, Her Majesty the Queen, acting by and with the advice
and consent of Her Executive Council, is pleased to vest in
the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Lower
Hutt, as from the date of this order, the reserve described in
the Schedule hereto, in trust, for a site for a community
centre.


SCHEDULE

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT

Lot 2, Deposited Plan No. 15301, being part Sections 59 and
61, Hutt District, situated in Block IX, Belmont Survey
District: Area, 3 roods 19·57 perches, more or less. Subject
to the reservations and conditions imposed by section 59 of
the Land Act 1948.
