Redefining Boundaries of the Borough of Queenstown, the County of Lake, and the Queenstown Riding of the County of Lake

PURSUANT to section 147 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1933, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Borough of Queenstown, the County of Lake, and the Queenstown Riding of the County of Lake, the previous boundaries having been altered by Order in Council dated the 23rd day of September 1953, and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 53 of the 24th day of September 1953.
SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF THE BOROUGH OF QUEENSTOWN

ALL that area in the Otago Land District, bounded by a line commencing at the westernmost corner of Section 20, Block I, Mid Wakatipu Survey District; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundaries of Section 20 aforesaid and Section 19, Block XX, Shotover Survey District, to the northernmost corner of Section 19 aforesaid; thence generally south-westerly along the eastern boundary of Section 19 aforesaid to the westernmost corner of Section 73, Block XX, Shotover Survey District; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundary of Section 73 aforesaid to and across a public road to the north-western side of Boundary Street; thence north-easterly along that side of Boundary Street to and across the Queenstown-Wanaka Main Highway; thence northerly along the western boundary of a plan lodged in the Land Registry Office at Dunedin as No. 7727 to the northern boundary of Lot 14 on that plan; thence easterly along the northern boundary of the said Lot 14 to the north-western boundary of Section 75, Block XX aforesaid; thence northerly and south-easterly along the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of Section 75 aforesaid to its easternmost corner; thence westerly, southerly, and again westerly by the south-eastern boundaries of Section 75 to the north-eastern corner of Section 32, Block XX, Shotover Survey District; thence south-westerly along the eastern boundary of Section 32 aforesaid to the northern side of the Milton-Queenstown State Highway; thence south-easterly along the northern side of that highway to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section 27, Block XX, Shotover Survey District; thence southerly across the aforesaid highway to and along the eastern boundary of Section 27 aforesaid to and across a public road to the shore of Lake Wakatipu; thence generally westerly by the shore of Lake Wakatipu to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 19, Block XX, Shotover Survey District; thence generally north-westerly to and along the south-western boundaries of Section 19 aforesaid and Section 20, Block I, Mid Wakatipu Survey District to its westernmost corner, the point of commencement.

BOUNDARIES OF THE COUNTY OF LAKE

All that area situated in the Otago and Southland Land Districts bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Awarua River; thence south-easterly along a straight line to Mount Aspiring and north-easterly along the summit of the Southern Alps to Mount Alba; thence generally south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of Run 97 and the left banks of the Wilkin and Makarora Rivers to Lake Wanaka; thence generally southerly along the eastern shores of Lake Wanaka and the left bank of the Clutha River to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Block XIV, Lower Wanaka Survey District; thence southerly across the Clutha River and along the eastern boundary of Block XIV through Trig. Station C,

Mount Iron, and along the eastern boundary of Block III and its production to a point in the Cardrona River in line with the northern boundary of Block I, Lower Wanaka Survey District; thence easterly and southerly to and along the northern and eastern boundaries of Block I aforesaid to its south-eastern corner; thence southerly by a right line to Trig. Station O, Mount Pisa; thence westerly by a right line to the source of Kirtleburn; thence generally southerly by the centre of Kirtleburn and the centre of the Kawarau River to a point near the confluence of the Nevis River; thence generally westerly to and along a leading ridge through Trig. Stations I, O, H, Mount Rosa, L, Mount Edward, and N, Kawarau Survey District, to Double Cone; thence generally southerly by the summit of the Remarkables and the Hector Mountains to Lorn Peak; thence in a south-westerly direction generally by the summit of the Hector Mountains and the Slate Range to Trig. D, Block VII, Nokomai Survey District; thence south-westerly by right lines to Trigs. G.S., C, and E, Block IV, Nokomai Survey District and Trig. ↑, Block III, Nokomai Survey District; thence in a south-westerly direction along the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 8, 7, 6, and 5, Block III, Nokomai Survey District aforesaid, and the last-mentioned boundary produced to the centre of the Mataura River; thence in a north-westerly direction generally by the centre of the said Mataura River as originally surveyed and including Section 12, Block III, Nokomai Survey District, to its source; thence northerly by a right line to Eyre Peak; thence westerly by a right line to Jane Peak; thence north-westerly by a right line to Hummock Peak; thence northerly generally by the summit of the watershed by Mount Lookup and the Thomson Range to Round Peaks; thence westerly by right lines to Moffat Peak and Mount Eglinton; thence northerly generally along the summit of the Earl Mountains to a point near Mount Anau and in line with the Castle Mountain and Cloudy Pass; thence north-westerly by a right line over the Castle Mountain to Cloudy Pass, Bligh Sound; thence north-westerly by the north-eastern side of Bligh Sound to the ocean; thence generally north-easterly along the sea coast to the mouth of the Awarua River, the point of commencement; excepting therefrom the Borough of Queenstown hereinbefore described and the Borough of Arrowtown as described in N.Z. Gazette, 1882, page 128.

BOUNDARIES OF THE QUEENSTOWN RIDING OF COUNTY OF LAKE

Commencing at Mount Aspiring and bounded towards the north by the Westland Land District boundary and Run 97; towards the east generally by Crown land, Run 465, the Matukituki River, Runs 333B, 333A, 334B, and 23 to Coronet Creek; towards the south-east generally by Run 26 and Sections 24, 17, 12, 25, 12, 18, 22, and 20, Block XVII, Shotover Survey District; towards the east generally by Blocks XVII and V and the east bank of the Shotover River to the Kawarau River; again towards the east generally by Run 345C to the Vincent County boundary and by that boundary to James Peak, Run 354A; towards the south by Run 354A to Lake Wakatipu, across the lake; thence by the western, northern, and part of the eastern shores of Lake Wakatipu to Stone Creek, Run 346D; towards the north by Stone Creek to Mount Larkins; towards the west generally by a straight line from Mount Larkins to Mount Cunningham to Mount Aspiring, the point of commencement, and including the islands in Lake Wakatipu; excepting from this area the Borough of Queenstown.
