Governor-General has been pleased to appoint on the 29th
day of September 1953
Allen David Knight
as Registrar of Brands for the Chatham Islands and an
Inspector under the said Act.

Member of the Potato Board Appointed (Notice No. Ag. 5511)
PURSUANT to paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 4
of the Potato Growing Industry Act 1950, His Excellency
the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint on the 28th
day of September 1953 on the nomination of the New Zealand
Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants’ Federation, Incorporated,
Arundel Turner, Esquire,
as a member of the Potato Board established under the said
Act.

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 12) 1953
PURSUANT to regulation 15 of the Import Control
Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives
notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control
    Exemption Notice (No. 11) 1953.
    (2) This notice shall come into force on the 9th day of
    October 1953.
  2. Goods of the classes specified in the First Schedule
    hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture
    of any country, other than the countries specified in the
    Second Schedule hereto, are hereby exempted from the
    requirement of a licence under the said regulations.
    FIRST SCHEDULE
    Tariff Item No.: Ex 357 (10) (a).
    Classes of Goods: Baling wire, plain barbing wire.
    SECOND SCHEDULE
    ALBANIA, Argentina, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia,
    Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador,
    French Somaliland, Germany (Russian Zone), Guatemala,

    Revocation of Notices of Schemes of Development and
    Reconstruction in the Auckland District
    PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 29 of the Finance
    Act (No. 3) 1944, I, William Stanley Goosman, the
    Minister of Works, hereby revoke the following three notices,
    viz:
    (1) Notice of a scheme of development and reconstruction
    in and adjacent to the Boroughs of Birkenhead and Northcote
    and the County of Waitemata dated 4 April 1946 and
    published in the Supplement to the Gazette of 4 April 1946
    at page 449.
    (2) Notice of a scheme of development and reconstruction
    in and adjacent to the Auckland Metropolitan Area, extending
    from Dairy Flat in the Waitemata County to Drury in the
    Franklin County dated 4 April 1946 and published in the
    said Supplement to the Gazette of 4 April 1946 at page 450.
    (3) Notice of a scheme of development and reconstruction
    in the Boroughs of Devonport, Birkenhead, Northcote, and
    Takapuna, the City of Auckland, and the County of Waitemata
    dated 6 September 1946 and published in the Supplement to
    the Gazette of 5 September 1946 at page 1237.

    Notice of Intention to Take Land in Block X, Ohinemaiua
    Survey District, for an Employee’s House
    NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed under the
    provisions of the Public Works Act 1928 and section
    85 of the Rabbit Nuisance Act 1928, to execute a certain
    public work, to wit, the construction of an employee’s house,
    and for the purposes of such public work the land described in
    the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is
    hereby further given that a plan of the land so required to
    be taken is deposited in the post office at Taihape and is
    there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by
    the execution of the said public work or by the taking of
    the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections
    to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of
    such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing
    within forty days from the first publication of this notice
    to the Minister of Works at Wellington.
    SCHEDULE
    APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land required to be taken:
    5 acres and 2.5 perches.
    Being part Motukawa 2B 20.
    Situated in Block X, Ohinewairua Survey District.

    Approving of Colour of Reflecting Material and Type and
    Colour of Background for Signs of Class E (Stop Signs)
    PURSUANT to regulation 2 of the Traffic Sign Regulations
    1937 (as amended by regulation 2 of the Traffic Sign
    Regulations 1937, Amendment No. 5) the Minister of Transport
    hereby approves in respect of signs of Class E (stop
    signs) (a) of the reflecting material being of a white, grey,
    or silver colour, and (b) of the background to the letters
    STOP on the sign being black in colour and in the form of
    an oblong which is approximately twenty-two inches long and
    ten inches high and the corners of which may be reduced.

    Plants Declared Noxious Weeds in the Hutt County
    (Notice No. Ag. 5512)
    PURSUANT to the Noxious Weeds Act 1950, the Director-
    General of Agriculture, acting under a delegation from
    the Minister of Agriculture for the purposes of the said Act,
    hereby publishes the following special order made by the
    Hutt County Council on the 10th day of September 1953.
    SPECIAL ORDER
    THAT the Council of the County of Hutt hereby resolves by
    way of special order, pursuant to the provisions of the
    Noxious Weeds Act 1950, that—
    Barberry (Berberis vulgaris),
    Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis),
    Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus and Rubus laciniatus),
    Common broom (Cytisus scoparius),
    Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare),
    Goat’s rue (Galega officinalis),
    Gorse (Ulex, any species),
    Greater bindweed (Calystegia sepium),
    Heath (Erica lusitanica and Erica arborea),
    Hemlock (Conium maculatum),
    Milk thistle or variegated thistle (Silybum marianum),
    Nassella tussock (Nassella trichotoma),
    Ragwort (Senecio jacobaea),
    Saffron thistle (Carthamus lanatus),
    Star thistle (Centaurea calcitrapa),
    Sweetbrier (Rosa eglanteria syn. Rosa rubiginosa),
    Tauhinu or New Zealand cotton-wood (Cassinia leptophylla
    or Cassinia fulvida),
    Tutsan (Hypericum androsaemum),
    Winged thistle (Carduus tenuiflorus and Carduus pycno-
    cephalus), and
    Woolly nightshade (Solanum auriculatum)
    are hereby declared to be noxious weeds in the whole of the
    County of Hutt, and this special order is in substitution of
    any previous special order relating to noxious weeds and any
    such previous special order is hereby revoked and shall cease
    to have any effect after the coming into force of this special
    order.
