  1. During the course of this inquiry the Board will consider the desirability of reclassifying the goods in question for the purposes of the Customs Tariff. In addition, the Board will consider any representations which may be made in favour of the reimposition of import licensing over all or any of the goods in question.

  2. For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of these tariff items, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Thursday, 26 November 1953, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

  3. Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses (2nd edition) which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undernamed.

  4. A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the undernamed on or before Thursday, 12 November 1953. Each statement will in general need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

Board of Trade Notice No. 72—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Paper Transfers


  1. The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under Tariff Item 301 (1) which reads as follows:

‘Paper transfers’.

This item is free of import duties from all sources.

Revoking a Notice Declaring Land to be Subject to Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936 (Maniapoto Development Scheme)


PURSUANT to section 4 of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby revokes a notice dated the 13th day of July 1937 and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 46 of 15 July 1937 at page 1642, whereby the land known as Otewa A 4 (formerly Rangitoto-Tuhua 33c 3b 4b 1d 7b) Block was declared to be subject to Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936.
