Result of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to Fill an
Extraordinary Vacancy on the Wellington Fire Board

Pursuant to the provisions of the Fire Services Act 1949,
the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby gives notice of
the following result of the election held on 22 June 1953 by
the insurance companies carrying on business in New Zealand
to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Wellington Fire Board:

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 5) 1953

Pursuant to regulation 15 of the Import Control
Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives
notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control
    Exemption Notice (No. 5) 1953.
    (2) This notice shall come into force on the 3rd day
    of July 1953.
  2. Goods of the class specified in the First Schedule
    hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture
    of any country other than the countries specified in the
    Schedule hereto, are hereby exempted from the requirement
    of a licence under the said regulations.

FIRST SCHEDULE
Tariff Item No.: Ex 136 (9).
Class of Goods: Women's sanitary knickers of rubber or
of fabric with rubber panels or inserts.

SECOND SCHEDULE
Albania, Argentina, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Columbia,
Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador,
French Somaliland, Germany (Russian Zone), Guatemala,

Notice of Intention to Take Additional Land in Block VIII,
Nuhaka Survey District, for a Maori School

Notice is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of the Public Works Act 1928, to take the
additional land described in the Schedule hereto for a Maori
School; and notice is hereby further given that the plan
of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-
office at Nuhaka and is there open for inspection; and that
all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if
they have any well-grounded objections to the taking of such
land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing,
within forty days from the first publication of this notice,
to the Minister of Works at Wellington.

SCHEDULE
Approximate area of the piece of additional land required
to be taken: 1 rood 1.9 perches.
Being Nuhaka 2c 2w, 145 Block.
Situated in Block VIII, Nuhaka Survey District (Hawke's
Bay R.D.).
In the Hawke's Bay Land District; as the same is more
particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 140538,
deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington,
and thereon coloured blue.

Approval of Red Reflectors for Bicycles in Terms of the
Traffic Regulations 1936

Pursuant to clause 2, regulation 21 of the Traffic Regulations 1936, the Minister of Transport hereby approves,
for the purposes of the said regulation, red reflectors of the
make and type described in the Schedule hereto and sample of
which is deposited at the Head Office of the Transport
Department, Wellington.

Reflex reflector as fitted to 'Eveready' bicycle tail lamp.

Declaring Trailer Units Forming Part of a Multi-axled Motor
Vehicle to be Trailers

Pursuant to subsection (1) of section 2 of the Transport
Act 1949, the Minister of Transport hereby determines
that the vehicle specified in the Schedule hereto, forming part
of a multi-axled vehicle as defined by section 2 of the said
Act, shall be deemed to be a trailer.

SCHEDULE
Trailer unit, Chassis No. T12795, owned by Rotorua Carrying
Co. Ltd., Rotorua.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the
Purposes of the Transport Act 1949, Section 36

Pursuant to section 36 of the Transport Act 1949, the
Minister of Transport hereby declares the area described
in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for
the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person
driving any motor-vehicle on any road therein shall be subject
to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by
the said section.

SCHEDULE
Situated within Southland County—
All that area adjacent to Invercargill City consisting of
that portion of Oteramika Road commencing at the
eastern boundary of Invercargill City and terminating
at a point 2 chains measured in an easterly direction
from the junction of the said road with Norwood
Street.

Revoking Portion of a Warrant Excluding Streets and Roads
from Limitation as to Speed and Excluding Portions of
Roads from the Speed Limitation Imposed by the
Transport Act 1949, Section 36

Pursuant to section 36 of the Transport Act 1949, the
Minister of Transport hereby revokes that portion of
the Warrant dated the 9th day of August 1937,* which
applies to the roads described in the First Schedule hereto,
and hereby excludes those portions of roads described in the
Second Schedule hereto from the limitation as to speed
imposed by the said section.

FIRST SCHEDULE
Situated within Havelock North Town District—
Mangateretere – Havelock North Main Highway No. 416
(all that portion from the northern boundary of
Havelock North Town District to a point on the
said main highway opposite the northern boundary
of the Havelock Domain, a distance of approximately
50 chains).
Hastings – Waimarama Main Highway No. 527 (all that
portion from the eastern boundary of Havelock North
Town District to the junction of the said main highway
with Te Mata Peak Road, a distance of
approximately 9 chains).
Middle Road (all that portion from the south-western
boundary of Havelock North Town District to the
junction of the said road with Lucknow Street, a
distance of approximately 23 chains).
Te Aute Road (all that portion from the western boundary
of Havelock North Town District to a point 5 chains
measured in a westerly direction along the said road
from its junction with Hastings-Waimarama Main
Highway No. 527, a distance of approximately 43
chains).

SECOND SCHEDULE
Situated within Havelock North Borough—
Mangateretere – Havelock North Main Highway No. 416
(all that portion commencing at the northern boundary
of Havelock North Borough and terminating at
a point 8 chains measured in a south-westerly
direction from the commencing point).
Middle Road (all that portion commencing at the south-
western boundary of Havelock North Borough and
terminating at a point 15 chains measured in a
north-easterly direction from the commencing point).
Te Aute Road (all that portion commencing at the
western boundary of Havelock North Borough and
terminating at a point 10 chains measured in an
easterly direction from the commencing point).
