Board of Trade Notice No. 46—Public Inquiry Into Import Duties on Biscuits
- The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under the following Tariff Items :—
Tariff Item 26 .. .. Biscuits, ships’, plain and unsweetened; also dog biscuits.
Tariff Item 27 .. .. Biscuits, other kinds.
The present rates of import duty in respect of these items are—
Tariff Item 26—
British Preferential .. 3s. 0d. per cwt. plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
General .. 4s. 0d. per cwt. plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.
Tariff Item 27—
British Preferential .. 15% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
Australian Agreement .. 20%.
General .. 45% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of these tariff items, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 14 April 1953, at 10.30 a.m. in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undernamed.

A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the undernamed on or before Tuesday, 31 March 1953. Each statement will, in general, need to be read under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

- The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under the following Tariff Items :—
Tariff Item 16 (1) (a) .. Cocoa.
16 (1) (b) .. Cocoa-beans roasted or crushed.
16 (2) .. Chocolate; also cocoa or chocolate mixed with milk or with any other food substance.
32 (1) .. Chewing gum.
32 (2) .. Confectionery, n.e.i., including medicated confectionery, liquorice, n.e.i., and sugared or crystallized fruits.
41 (1) .. Glucose, grape sugar.
41 (2) .. Caramel.
The present rates of import duty in respect of these items are—
Tariff Items 16 (1) (a) and 16 (1) (b)—
British Preferential .. 3d. per lb.
Most Favoured Nation .. 6d. per lb.
General .. 6d. per lb. plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

Most Favoured Nation .. 45%.
General .. 55% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.
Tariff Item 32 (1)—

Amending Notice of Adoption Under Part IX of the Maori Land Act 1931
THE notice of adoption dated 2 October 1952 and published in the Gazette on 9 October 1952, at page 1696, and affecting Nicholas Ormsby and others, is hereby amended by order of the Maori Land Court, by substituting for the words “Joslyn Laye Warbrick” the words “Joslyn Raye Warbrick”.
