Auckland Milling and Afforestation Co., Pukapuka R.D., Warkworth, has applied for a licence to resell motor-spirit from one pump to be installed on sawmill premises at Pukapuka, Warkworth, Rodney County.

V. Jones, Queen Street, Masterton, has applied for permission to change the retail selling point of two pumps from their present position near garage premises in Queen Street, Masterton, to a new site almost directly opposite in the same street.

G. G. Bennett, Pareora, has applied for permission to change the retail selling point of four pumps from Turnbull Street, Pareora, to the corner of the Main Highway and Pooke’s Road.

Applicants and other persons considering themselves to be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should, not later than 11 December 1952, submit any written evidence and representations they may desire to tender. Board of Trade Notice No. 44—Public Inquiry Into Import Duties on Typewriter Ribbons, &c.

  1. The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed under Tariff Item 332 (3) which reads as follows: “Ribbons for adding, computing, accounting, book-keeping, combined adding and typing, and cash registering machines, and for typewriters”.

The present rates of import duty are—

British Preferential .. 3%

General .. .. 25% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.

  1. For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of this tariff item, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 24 March 1953, at 10.30 a.m. in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Buildings, Stout Street, Wellington.

  2. Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the undernamed.

  3. A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the undernamed on or before Tuesday, 10 March 1953. Each statement will, in general, need to be read under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

The present rates of import duty are—

British Preferential .. Free.

Most Favoured Nation .. 20%

General .. .. 20% plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.
