NEW ZEALAND—COOK STRAIT
Information about Rocks
(1) Amendments to depths; name to be inserted.
Position—
(a) Witts Rock. Lat. 40° 52' 05" S., long. 174° 19' 00" E. (approx.).
(b) Lat. 40° 56' 15" S., long. 174° 19' 25" E. (approx.).
Details : The depth at (a) and (b) are to be amended to 5½ fathoms and 5 fathoms respectively. The name “McManaway Rock” is to be inserted against (b) and the note “(Unexamd.)” shown against (a) and (b) is to be expunged.
(2) Alteration in position and depth of rock.
Position : Brothers Light. Lat 41° 06' 30" S., long. 174° 27' 35" E. (approx.).
Position : Fisherman’s Rock about half-a-mile south-westward of its charted position and 074° distant 7·5 miles from the above light.
Depth : 5½ fathoms.
On chart N.Z. 23.
Position : Witts Rock. Lat. 40° 52'·1 S., long. 174' 17'·8 E. (approx.), depth to be amended to 5½ fathoms.
Position : McManaway Rock. Lat 40° 56'·2 S., long. 174° 18'·2 E. (approx.). The name “McManaway Rock” is to be inserted and depth amended to 5 fathoms.

Position : Nelson Light : Lat. 41° 15'·3 S., long. 173° 16'·5 E. (approx.).
Position of Masts : (a) 222° distant 3·2 miles
(b) 212° distant 2·7 miles from the above light.
Details : A fixed red light is shown from the top of these masts. A small circle marked “Radio Masts F.R. Lts.” is to be inserted in the above positions.

Notice to Mariners No. 72 of 1952
PUBLICATION OF THE NEW ZEALAND NAUTICAL ALMANAC AND TIDE-TABLES FOR THE YEAR 1953
THE “New Zealand Nautical Almanac and Tide Tables” for 1953, compiled at the Nautical Adviser’s Office, Marine Department, and published at Wellington, will be available 3 December 1952, and may be purchased from Government Shipping offices or the Marine Department, Wellington.
The publication contains the following information:—
Daily times of sunrise and sunset at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington, with time differences for ascertaining similar times at Invercargill, Nelson, New Plymouth, and Westport; phases of the moon; and times of moonrise and moonset at Wellington.
Tidal predictions, giving the daily times and heights of high and low water for the Ports of Auckland, Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Wellington, and Westport.
Time differences, by which the approximate time of high and low water may be obtained at 104 places within New Zealand.
Tidal stream predictions giving the approximate daily times of the flood and ebb streams making at French Pass and Tory Channel.
Magnetic declination (variation of the compass) at places throughout New Zealand for 1953, and places where abnormal variation has been experienced; list of latest dated Admiralty charts of the coast and harbours of the Dominion, &c.; list of New Zealand lighthouses, radio beacons, and fog-signals; distress signals and procedure; regulations for preventing collisions at sea; New Zealand time-service for chronometer rating; standard times of the world; general harbour signals; table of coastal distances; list of Customs ports; meteorology of the New Zealand region; Pacific Ocean date line; list of licensed adjusters of compasses and coastal pilots; ports at which compulsory pilotage is in force; system of buoyage; closing of British ports; a list of signal letters of ships registered in the Dominion; small ship radio-telephony service; useful nautical tables with the necessary explanations; and principal articles of the calendar, holidays, &c.
Information and plans relative to ports in New Zealand; important notices to mariners issued by the Admiralty and information for general use to navigators and others.
Prospective purchasers, especially those desiring a number of copies, should make early application so as to receive a supply from the first issue, as some weeks may elapse between the first and subsequent issues.
The “Nautical Almanac” is published by direction of the Hon. The Minister of Marine. Price 20s.
