Appointments in the Public Service
THE Public Service Commission has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—
Winton Robert Rigg
to be Registrar of the Magistrate’s Court at Dannevirke for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1947; Maintenance Officer at the Magistrate’s Court at Dannevirke for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act 1926, and Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the Licensing District of Pahiatua for the purposes of the Licensing Act 1908, on and from the 3rd day of September 1952.
Hector McKechnie
to be Registrar of the Magistrate’s Court, Marton, for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1947, and Maintenance Officer of the Magistrate’s Court, Marton, for the purposes of the Destitute Persons Amendment Act 1926, on and from the 29th day of September 1952.
Brian Chalmers Innes
to be a Meat Grader under the Meat Act 1939 for the purposes of the Board of Trade (Meat Grading) Regulations 1943, on and from the 25th day of September 1952.

Plant Declared a Noxious Weed in Kairanga County (Notice No. Ag. 5330)
PURSUANT to the Noxious Weeds Act 1950, the Minister of Agriculture hereby publishes the following Special Order made by the Kairanga County Council on the 9th day of September 1952.
SPECIAL ORDER
THAT, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 3 of the Noxious Weeds Act 1950, the Kairanga County Council resolves by way of Special Order that within the County of Kairanga the plant known as thorn apple or jimson weed (Datura stramonium) is hereby declared to be a noxious weed.

Plants Declared to be Noxious Weeds in the Kamo Town District (Notice No. Ag. 5332)
PURSUANT to the Noxious Weeds Act 1950, the Minister of Agriculture hereby publishes the following Special Order made by the Kamo Town Board on the 11th day of April 1952.
SPECIAL ORDER
That, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Noxious Weeds Act 1950, the Kamo Town Board hereby resolves and declares by way of Special Order that the plants mentioned in the Schedule hereto (being plants mentioned in the First Schedule to the said Act) are noxious weeds within the Kamo Town District.

Waterfront Industry Emergency Regulations 1946, Amendment No. 10—Notification of Appointment of Bluff Port Conciliation Committee
PURSUANT to the Waterfront Industry Emergency Regulations 1946, Amendment No. 10, the Minister of Labour doth hereby notify the appointment of the following persons as the Port Conciliation Committee for the Port of Bluff for a term expiring 31st day of March 1953 :—
Alan Herbert James Wyatt, Chairman; and
Henry Gustave Edwards, James Alexander Hamilton, and Harry Hardaker (nominated by the New Zealand Port Employers Association Industrial Association of Employers) and William Frederick Webb (nominated by the New Zealand Railways Department); and
William Henry Anglem, George Ashwell, Cecil Edward Gross, and Elvyn Thomson White (nominated by the Bluff Waterside Workers Industrial Union of Workers).

Waterfront Industry Emergency Regulations 1946, Amendment No. 10—Appointment of Member of Westport Port Conciliation Committee
PURSUANT to the Waterfront Industry Emergency Regulations 1946, Amendment No. 10, the Minister of Labour doth hereby appoint
Nelson Wilkinson (nominated by New Zealand Railways Department)
to be a member of the Port Conciliation Committee for the Port of Westport, vice John Alexander Thompson.

Inquiry Into Fire at the Premises of Messrs. P. Hayman and Company Limited, Dunedin
To HENRY WILFRED BUNDLE, Esquire, of Nelson, Retired Magistrate.
WHEREAS on the 29th day of April 1952, a serious fire occurred at the premises of Messrs. P. Hayman and Company, Limited, situated in Stuart Street, Dunedin :
And whereas extensive damage to property occurred by reason of the said fire :
And whereas it is expedient that a full inquiry be made into all the circumstances concerning the said fire :
Now, therefore, pursuant to section 82 of the Fire Services Act 1949, as enacted by section 4 of the Fire Services Amendment Act 1952, I, William Alexander Bodkin, Minister of Internal Affairs, hereby appoint you the said—
Henry Wilfred Bundle
to hold an inquiry into and report upon the following matters :—
- The cause and origin of the fire.
- Whether any special circumstances contributed to the origin and spread of the fire.
- The effectiveness or otherwise of the measures taken to deal with the fire.
- The adequacy of the water-supply available in the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire District for fire-fighting purposes and the adequacy or otherwise of the measures taken to make provision for fire fighting under the water-supply conditions prevailing.
- And generally upon such matters arising thereout as may come to your notice in the course of your inquiries which you consider should be investigated in connection therewith and upon any matters affecting the premises which you consider should be brought to the attention of the Government.
And you are hereby strictly charged and directed that you shall not at any time publish or otherwise disclose, save to me in pursuance of these presents or by my direction, the contents of any report so made or to be made by you or any evidence or information obtained by you in the exercise of the powers hereby conferred upon you except such evidence or information as is received in the course of a sitting open to the public.
And, further, I do require you to report to me in writing within sixty days of the date hereof your findings and opinions on the matters aforesaid together with such recommendations as you think fit to make in respect thereof.
And, lastly, it is hereby declared that this Warrant is in substitution for the Warrant given under my hand on the 18th day of September 1952, and published in the Gazette of the same date, at page 1528, relating to the same fire as is the subject of this Warrant, the date of the occurrence of which was erroneously stated in the said Warrant of the 18th day of September 1952, to have been the 21st day of April 1952; and the said Warrant of the 18th day of September 1952, is hereby revoked accordingly.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes of Section 36 of the Transport Act 1949
PURSUANT to section 36 of the Transport Act 1949, the Minister of Transport hereby declares the area described in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving any motor-vehicle on any road therein shall be subject to the maximum speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.

SITUATED within Waitemata County—
The Auckland–Helensville State Highway No. 6 (all that portion commencing at its intersection with the north-western boundary of New Lynn Borough and terminating at its intersection with the south-eastern boundary of Glen Eden Town District).
