The Tobacco Board Election Regulations 1952—Deposit of Electors’ Roll
NOTICE is hereby given that in pursuance of the provisions of regulation 9 (1) of the Tobacco Board Election Regulations 1952, copies of the Electors’ Roll have been deposited at the places set out in the Schedule hereto and are open for public inspection during ordinary office hours for a period of seven days from Wednesday, 20 August 1952.

Board of Trade Notice No. 35—Public Inquiry into Tariff Duties on Cigarette Papers, &c.
Board of Trade,
11 August 1952.
- The Board of Trade proposes to inquire into and report upon the question of what rates of duty should be imposed (a) under Tariff Item 236 (2), which reads as follows : “Cigarette-tubes, -papers, and -paper, n.e.i.”, and (b) as Excise Duty on : “Cigarette tubes, cigarette papers and cigarette paper”.
The present tariff rates are—
British Preferential : ½d. for each 60 cigarette tubes or papers or the equivalent of 60 cigarette tubes or papers plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty in respect of goods imported from Ireland (except Northern Ireland), Union of South Africa, India, Pakistan, and Canada.
General : ¾d. for each 60 cigarette tubes or papers or the equivalent of 60 cigarette tubes or papers plus surtax at the rate of nine-fortieths of the amount of duty.
The present rate of excise duty is ½d. for each 60 cigarette tubes or 60 cigarette papers or the equivalent of 60 cigarette tubes or 60 cigarette papers.

For the purpose of taking evidence on the review of this tariff item and excise duty, the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Thursday, 6 November 1952, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, Departmental Buildings, Stout Street, Wellington.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the notes for the guidance of witnesses which have been approved by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the office of any Collector of Customs or from the under named.

A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes of guidance, should be lodged with the under named on or before Thursday, 23 October 1952. Each statement will, in general, need to be read under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.
