Approval of Red Reflectors for Heavy Motor Vehicles, Being Goods Service Vehicles in Terms of the Traffic Regulations 1936
Pursuant to clause 22, regulation 7 of the Traffic Regulations 1936, the Minister of Transport doth hereby approve, for the purposes of the said regulation, the red reflectors of the make and type described in the Schedule hereto.

By-laws Regulating Heavy Traffic on the Mohaka River Bridge
On the Taupo-Napier State Highway
In pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Main Highways Act 1922, and by section 54 of the Transport Act 1949, the Main Highways Board doth hereby make the following by-laws in respect of the above-mentioned bridge, and doth hereby declare that the said by-laws shall come into force as from the publication of this notice in the New Zealand Gazette.
BY-LAWS
- INTERPETATION
(1) These by-laws may be cited as "The Taupo-Napier State Highway (Mohaka River Bridge) Heavy Traffic By-laws 1951."
(2) These by-laws shall apply to the Mohaka River Bridge on the Taupo-Napier State Highway.
(3) In these by-laws a pair of tandem axles shall mean any two axles separated by a distance less than 8 ft., but not less than 40 in. The spacing between pairs of tandem axles shall mean the distance between the mid point between the axles of one pair of tandem axles and the mid point between any adjacent pair of tandem axles.
(4) In these by-laws, unless the context otherwise requires :-
Words and phrases shall have the same meaning as are attributed to them in the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations 1950.
"Engineer" means the Engineer of the Ministry of Works for the time being a member of the No. 5 District Highways Council.
"Authorized person" means and includes "Engineer" as hereinbefore defined, and any Traffic Inspector or Overseer in charge of the portion of road on which the Mohaka River Bridge is located.
- PROHIBITION OF CERTAIN CLASSES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC
(1) Whereas the Mohaka River Bridge is part of a road classified under the Heavy Motor-vehicle Regulations 1950, as Class Two, the Main Highways Board hereby gives notice that the following additional restriction shall apply to heavy traffic upon the said bridge. No person shall drive or take or permit to be driven or taken upon or over the Mohaka River Bridge any heavy motor vehicle which, together with any trailer or trailers attached, has two pairs of tandem axles spaced less than 20 ft. apart if the weight of the heavy motor vehicle, together with any trailer or trailers, exceeds 18 tons or if the weight borne by the four axles forming two pairs of tandem axles exceeds 16 tons.
- ASCERTAINMENT OF OFFENDERS
(1) Any authorized person, or police officer, may call upon the driver of any heavy motor-vehicle to stop his vehicle if it is considered that such vehicle or its load does not comply with the requirements of these by-laws.
(2) If any such driver shall fail immediately to stop his vehicle when called upon as aforesaid he shall be guilty of an offence against these by-laws.
(3) Any driver of any vehicle who does not or is challenged with having not complied with the requirements of these by-laws shall, on the request of any authorized person or police officer, give information as to his name and address, and any other particulars required as to his identification and the name and address and other particulars of the owner of the vehicle.
(4) If such driver shall refuse to give any of the information required to be given by him in pursuance of these by-laws or shall give false information or shall withhold information so as to create a false impression, he shall be guilty of an offence against these by-laws.
(5) Any other person who, on the request of any authorized person or police officer, shall fail when required to give information which is in the power of such person to give, and which relates to any breach or alleged breach of these by-laws, shall be guilty of an offence against these by-laws.
- OFFENCES AND PENALTY
(1) Every person who does or causes or procures to be done anything contrary to or otherwise than is provided by these by-laws, or who shall omit to do anything therein required to be done by him, shall be guilty of an offence.
(2) Every person guilty of an offence against these by-laws shall be liable for each such offence to a fine not exceeding £20 (twenty pounds).
The foregoing by-laws were made by resolution duly passed at a meeting of the Main Highways Board held in Wellington on 19th day of December 1951.
