HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy:—

Lieutenant-Commander John David Keay, V.R.D., A.D.C., appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel II” in continuation as Naval Assistant Personnel (Reserves and Mobilization), to date 1 October 1951 (granted the Acting Rank of Commander whilst holding this appointment).

Lieutenant-Commander Ivon Le Nain Priddy, granted an extension of his Short-service Commission for a period of twelve months, to date 29 September 1951.

Lieutenant-Commander Frederick Dennison Cole, R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for two and a half years’ Loan Service, to date 14 November 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported).

Lieutenant-Commander Oliver Russell Moore, R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for two and a half years’ Loan Service, to date 29 November 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported).

Lieutenant Sidney John Hales, R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for three years’ Loan Service, to date 4 October 1951, H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage 5 October 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Lachlan” (date to be reported).

Lieutenant Gerald Arthur Lawrence, R.N., transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority of 23 August 1947, to date 30 October 1951, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, to date 30 October 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported).

Lieutenant William John Doole, advanced to the grade of Assistant Surveyor, third class, to date 1 October 1951.

Lieutenant Ian Steward Sandeman, R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for two and a half years’ Loan Service, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported) to date 25 October 1951.

Lieutenant Derek Ashfield Woods, D.S.C., R.N., lent Royal New Zealand Navy and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, for two and a half years’ Loan Service, to date 14 November 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage (date to be reported).

Lieutenant David Nisbet Price, R.N., transferred to the Royal New Zealand Navy in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority of 27 March 1949, and appointed H.M.N.Z.S. “Maori”, additional, to date 12 October 1951, and H.M.N.Z.S. “Philomel”, additional, for passage to date 2 November 1951.

Sub-Lieutenant (Sp) Charles Selwyn Grace, M.Sc., promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (Sp), to date 29 June 1951, and reappointed.

Sub-Lieutenant (E) Richard Nathaniel Montgomery Lea, promoted to the rank of Lieutenant (E), to date 1 October 1951, and reappointed.

Acting Sub-Lieutenant Robert Edward Lawry, confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, with seniority of 1 January 1950, to date 8 September 1951.

Acting Sub-Lieutenant (S) Alan Herbert Middleton, confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant (S), with seniority of 1 September 1950, to date 25 July 1951.

Acting Commissioned Gunner (T) Trevor Harry Wickman, confirmed in the rank of Commissioned Gunner (T), to date 16 May 1951, with original seniority of 16 May 1951.

Lieutenant-Commander (S) Richard Restless Reeves, R.D., R.A.N.R., granted a permanent Commission in the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (S), to date 8 October 1951, with original seniority of 1 July 1945.

COLONELS’ LIST

Regular Force—

Brigadier C. E. Weir, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., having returned to New Zealand ex Imperial Defence College, U.K., is appointed Quartermaster-General and Third Military Member of the Army Board. Dated 9 November 1951.

Colonel L. W. Thornton, O.B.E., relinquishes the appointments of C.R.A. HQ., N.Z. Divisional Artillery, and Senior Officer, Regular Cadre, HQ., N.Z. Division, and proceeded to the United Kingdom to undergo a course at the Imperial Defence College. Dated 3 November 1951.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force—

Lieutenant-Colonel W. S. McKinnon, O. B. E., M.Sc., is appointed Senior Officer, Regular Cadre, HQ., N.Z. Division, and C.R.A. HQ., N.Z. Divisional Artillery, and is granted the temporary rank of Colonel, dated 3 November 1951, and relinquishes the appointment of Deputy Adjutant-General, Army Headquarters, dated 8 November 1951.

Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. G. Gilberd to be temp. Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 1 November 1951.

Territorial Force—

3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.—

Lieutenant K. Wilson to be Captain. Dated 10 October 1951.

Lieutenant J. E. Foote is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Artillery, with the rank of Captain. Dated 9 November 1951.

4th Medium Regiment, R.N.Z.A.—

Captain T. R. Atchley, E.D., to be Major. Dated 1 October 1951.

Lieutenant J. H. B. Wilding, from the Reserve of Officers, Regimental List, 4th Medium Regiment, R.N.Z.A., to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 11 May 1945, and is seconded to Headquarters, N.Z. Divisional Artillery, for duty as Staff Lieutenant. Dated 17 October 1951.

Travis Jarvie Smith to be 2nd Lieutenant. Dated 1 October 1951.
