Lands Reserved in the North Auckland, Wellington, and Otago Land Districts

WHEREAS by section 167 of the Land Act, 1948, it is enacted that the Governor-General may, from time to time, set apart as a reserve, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral lease or pastoral occupation licence, any Crown land for any purpose which, in his opinion, is desirable in the public interest, and notice thereof shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette :

Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby reserve, subject, however, to the reservations and conditions imposed by section 59 of the Land Act, 1948, and subject also to the reservations imposed by section 8 of the Coal Mines Amendment Act, 1950, the lands in the North Auckland, Wellington, and Otago Land Districts described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be reserved.

NORTH AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT

Vesting the Control of Scenic Reserves in the Hae Hae Te Moana Scenic Board

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by section 13 of the Scenery Preservation Act 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand doth hereby vest the control of the reserves described in the Schedule hereto (being land reserved under the said Act), for the period of five years from the date hereof (unless previously altered or revoked under the said Act), in the undermentioned persons, namely,—

John Studholme Barker,
Robin Paul Harper,
Charles William Lynn,
Godfrey David Burrows, and
Allan Marshall,

who are hereby constituted for that purpose a special Board by the name of the Hae Hae Te Moana Scenic Board (herein referred to as the Board), in trust, for the preservation of scenery, and with the powers and subject to the conditions hereinafter contained, that is to say:—

  1. The first meeting of the Board shall be held on Thursday, the 1st day of November, 1951, at 8 o’clock p.m., at the residence of Mr. J. S. Barker, Four Peaks, and thereafter the Board shall meet for the transaction of business at such time and place as may from time to time be fixed by the Board.

  2. The members of the Board shall at their first meeting, and thereafter at the annual meeting hereinafter mentioned, elect one of themselves to be Chairman, who may join in the discussion, and shall have an original as well as a casting vote. The Chairman shall hold office until the election of his successor.

  3. Special meetings may be convened by the Chairman, provided that two days’ notice of such meeting is given to each member, specifying the business to be transacted at such special meeting; and no other business than that so specified shall be transacted at such meeting.

  4. Any three members of the Board shall form a quorum. Any meeting may be adjourned from time to time.

  5. All questions shall be determined by the majority of votes of the members of the Board present at a meeting.

  6. If at any meeting the Chairman is not present at the time appointed for holding the same, the members present shall choose one of their number to be Chairman for such meeting.

  7. If by resignation, death, incapacity, or otherwise the seat of any member shall be or become vacant, or if any member absents himself without reasonable cause from three consecutive meetings of the Board, the Governor-General shall have power to appoint any other person to be a member of the Board in his stead.

  8. The Board shall prepare and submit at an annual meeting to be held in the month of April in each year a report of the proceedings of the Board for the previous year ending on the 31st day of March, together with a statement of the receipts and expenditure of the Board for such year. A copy of every such report and statement, certified by the Chairman to be correct, shall be sent to the Minister in Charge of Scenery Preservation as soon as possible after each annual meeting.

  9. The Board shall control the said reserves in accordance with the provisions of the said Act and of the regulations made thereunder.

RESERVES 3883 and 4254, Block XV, Four Peaks Survey District : Area, 186 acres 2 roods, more or less.

Extending the Period Within Which the Royal Commission of the Waterfront Industry Shall Report

GEORGE THE SIXTH by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith.

To Our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir ROBERT KENNEDY, of Dunedin, lately a Judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, THOMAS BLOODWORTH, of Auckland, lately a member of the Legislative Council, and JAMES SAVERS, of Wellington, Retired General Manager of Railways : GREETING :

WHEREAS by Our Warrant dated the 21st day of September 1950, issued under the authority of the Letters Patent of His late Majesty dated the 11th day of May 1917, and under the authority of the Commissions of Inquiry Act 1908, and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, you were appointed to be a Commission to inquire into and report upon the matters in Our said Warrant set out :

And whereas by Our said Warrant you were required to report not later than the 31st day of March 1951 your findings and opinions on the matters referred to you and your recommendations thereon :

And whereas by Our further Warrant dated the 28th day of March 1951 the time within which you were so required to report was extended until the 30th day of September 1951 :

And whereas it is expedient that the time for so reporting should be extended as hereinafter provided :

Now, therefore, we do hereby extend until the 31st day of March 1952 the time within which you are so required to report :

And we do hereby confirm the said Warrant and the Commission thereby constituted save as modified by these presents.

In witness whereof we have caused these presents to be issued and the Seal of New Zealand to be hereunto affixed at Wellington this 19th day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred and fifty-one and in the fifteenth year of Our Reign.

Witness Our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, on whom has been conferred the Victoria Cross, Knight Grand Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of Our Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Knight Commander of Our Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Companion of Our Distinguished Service Order, Lieutenant-General in Our Army, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over New Zealand and its Dependencies, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion.
