Decisions Under Customs Acts

Customs Department, Wellington, 19th June, 1951.

It is hereby notified for public information that it has been decided to interpret the Customs Acts in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:-

NOTES.- (a) "Not elsewhere included" appears as n.e.i.; "other kinds" as o.k.; "articles and materials suited for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication or repair of goods within New Zealand" as a. and m.s. (b) Articles marked thus † are revised decisions. (c) The rates of duty payable on goods set out hereunder have not been shown except in the case of goods classed under Tariff items 416, 448, and 449, and of goods admitted (under the provisions of section 11 of the Customs Amendment Act, 1927) at a rate of duty lower than that provided for in the First Schedule to the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1934. Where goods are admitted under the provisions of section 11 aforesaid, the reduced rate is marked with an asterisk. (d) Steam-engines, gas-engines, oil-engines, and electric or other motors are not, unless otherwise indicated, to be regarded as parts of the machines with which they are imported. (e) Surtax as provided for in section 5 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1930, or primage duty as provided for in section 4 of the Customs Acts Amendment Act, 1931, as the case may be, is payable in addition to the duties set out hereunder.

Bags, leather, &c.- Handbags and purses, of leather or leathercloth, including articles contained therein which, if imported separately, would be dutiable at a different rate The decision on page 63 of the Tariff Index reading " Dressing cases, ladies' handbags, purses, &c." is cancelled. 204 .. ..
Toilet sets consisting of brushes and/or other toilet articles packed in a handled case 204 .. ..
Brushes, brushware, and brooms- Toilet sets consisting of brushes and other toilet articles in unhandled cases or only temporarily boxed The following decisions are cancelled- Page 83 of the Tariff Index-" Baby sets consisting of brush with comb, &c." M.O. 46-" Dressing cases, uncased, &c." 419 (2) .. ..
Insecticides &c., for agricultural use- Gammexane in wettable or water dispersible powder 119 .. ..
Leather manufactures n.e.i.- Collar boxes, key cases, wallets, and writing cases, made wholly or partially of leather, even if containing articles which if imported separately, would be dutiable at a lower rate The decision on page 230 of the Tariff Index reading " Collar boxes, key cases, &c." is cancelled. 203 .. ..
Machinery, &c.- Agricultural n.e.i.- Cloches, glass, collapsible, consisting of sheets of glass held together by wire frames Frames, wire, for supporting glass cloches The decision on page 336 of the Tariff Index reading " Wire frames for supporting glass cloches" is cancelled. 333 (3) .. ..
Metal, manufactured articles of, n.e.i., &c. - Toilet sets packed in cases having no handles and not containing brushes The decision on page 230 of the Tariff Index reading " Dressing cases being small leather or leatherette containers without handles, containing brush, &c." is cancelled. 356 (1) (c) .. ..
Textile, felt, &c., Articles n.e.i. made of- Handbags of textile even if beaded, sequined, or otherwise decorated The decision on page 199 of the Tariff Index reading " Handbags, boaded textile, &c." is cancelled. 184 (2) .. ..
Vehicles- Carriages, carts, &c.- Carriages, wheeled, for golf bags 381 .. ..

Mining Privilege Struck off the Register

NOTICE is hereby given, pursuant to section 188 of the Mining Act, 1926, that the mining privilege set out in the Schedule hereto has been struck off the register.
