HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve
of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resig-
nations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army :—
GENERALS’ LIST
Regular Force—
Major-General K. L. Stewart, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., is appointed
G.O.C., N.Z. Division, in addition to his present appointments of
Chief of the General Staff and First Military Member of the Army
Board. Dated 1st May, 1951.
COLONELS’ LIST
Regular Force—
Colonel L. W. Thornton, O.B.E., is appointed G.S.O.I., Head-
quarters, N.Z. Division, and C.R.A., Headquarters, N.Z. Divisional
Artillery, in addition to his present appointment of Commandant,
Linton Camp. Dated 1st May, 1951.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY
Regular Force—
Captain and Quartermaster R. M. Nutsford was granted the
temporary rank of Major and Quartermaster for the period 21st
February, 1951, to 27th March, 1951, whilst holding the appointment
of D.A.Q.M.G., Headquarters, Northern Military District.
Lieutenant H. Perceval is posted to the Retired List. Dated
9th May, 1951.
Territorial Force—
1st Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A.—
Temp. Lieutenant B. H. Maclean, seconded to the Avondale
College Cadets, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 14th September,
1945, and is transferred to the N.Z. Cadet Corps. Dated 1st March,
1951.
14th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A.—
Major J. L. Mair is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Regi-
mental List, 14th Composite Anti-Aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A.,
with the rank of Major, with seniority from 2nd January, 1950.
Dated 20th April, 1951.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS
Territorial Force—
1st Armoured Regiment (Waikato) R.N.Z.A.C.—
Lieutenant R. A. Pickett is posted to the Retired List. Dated
17th April, 1951.

Captain (temp. Major) D. P. Wakefield to be Major. Dated
31st March, 1951.

Sergeant (temp. Staff Sergeant) Robert Maxwell Cooper to be
2nd Lieutenant, with seniority from 3rd May, 1950. Dated 3rd May,

N.Z. Regiment—
Walter Richard John Spittle (late Lieutenant-Colonel, Indian
Army) is granted a short-service commission for a period of three
years as from 7th May, 1951, in the rank of Major. Dated 7th May,
1951.
Trevor Lionel Pattison to be Lieutenant (on prob.). Dated 17th
April, 1951.
Staff Sergeant Allan Mervyn James Millar to be 2nd Lieutenant,
with seniority from 3rd May, 1950. Dated 3rd May, 1951.
The appointment of Lieutenant (on prob.) K. M. Young lapses.

Territorial Force—
The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)—
2nd Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant) H. O. Ingram, seconded to
the Auckland Grammar School Cadets, to be Lieutenant, with
seniority from 31st March, 1943, and is transferred to the N.Z.
Cadet Corps. Dated 1st March, 1951.
The North Auckland Regiment—
2nd Lieutenant G. T. Beehre, from the Reserve of Officers,
Regimental List, The North Auckland Regiment, to be 2nd Lieu-
tenant, with seniority from 21st May, 1948, and is posted to the 1st
Battalion. Dated 4th April, 1951.
The Canterbury Regiment—
The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants and are posted to

Captain J. P. Quilter, 1st Battalion, to be Major. Dated 15th
February, 1951.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY SERVICE CORPS
Regular Force—
Staff Sergeant George Norbert-Munns to be Lieutenant and
Quartermaster. Dated 1st April, 1951.
Territorial Force—
1st Company, R.N.Z.A.S.C.—
Major O. Bracegirdle, D.S.O., E.D., is transferred to the Reserve
of Officers, Regimental List, The Royal N.Z. Army Service Corps,
with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 21st
December, 1946. Dated 1st March, 1951.
Captain C. M. Torbet, O.B.E., to be Major, with seniority from
10th June, 1946. Dated 1st May, 1951.
6th Company, R.N.Z.A.S.C.—
With reference to the notice published in the New Zealand
Gazette No. 23, dated 21st March, 1951, relative to the promotion of
Lieutenant R. J. Walton, for “ temp. Captain ” substitute “ Captain ”.

Regular Force—
W.O. II (temp. W.O. I) Joseph Scanlen Underdown, B.E.M.,
to be Lieutenant and Quartermaster. Dated 1st April, 1951.
Territorial Force—
Colonel R. A. Elliott, O.B.E., E.D., M.B., Ch.B., F.R.C.S. (Edin.),
F.R.A.C.S., is appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, N.Z.
Division, in addition to his present appointment of Assistant Director
of Medical Services, Central Military District. Dated 1st May, 1951.
2nd General Hospital, R.N.Z.A.M.C.—
Lieutenant-Colonel K. B. Bridge, O.B.E., M.B., Ch.B., re-
linquishes the appointment of O.C., Surgical Division, 2nd General
Hospital, R.N.Z.A.M.C., and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers,
General List, The Royal N.Z. Army Medical Corps, with the rank
of Lieutenant-Colonel, with seniority from 5th July, 1946. Dated
16th April, 1951.
THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS
Regular Force—
Captain and Quartermaster (temp. Major and Quartermaster)
L. H. Stroud is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Major

service commission for a period of two years as from 13th April, 1951.
