IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by subsection (1) (b) of section 7 of the Public Reserves, Domains, and National Parks Act, 1928, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the reservation for gravel purposes over the land described in the First Schedule hereto; and doth hereby revoke the reservation for a gravel-pit over the land described in the Second Schedule hereto; and doth hereby declare that the said lands, being vested in the Crown, are Crown lands available for disposal under the Land Act, 1948.

The Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations (No. 2) 1950

PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act, 1949, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby make the following regulations.
REGULATIONS

THESE regulations may be cited as the Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations (No. 2) 1950, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the regulations made under the Government Railways Act, 1908, on the 12th day of June, 1922, and published in the New Zealand Gazette on the 15th day of the same month at page 1583, as the same are enuring under the Government Railways Act, 1949 (hereinafter called the principal regulations).

Regulation 16 of the principal regulations, as substituted by regulation 2 of the Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations 1947 (No. 2),* is hereby further amended by revoking subclause (1), and substituting the following subclauses:—
“ (1) Subject to the following provisions of this regulation, no candidate for employment shall be engaged as a probationer in any occupation if his age at the date of his engagement is less than the minimum or more than the maximum for the occupation as specified hereunder:—

“ (1A) In the case of any male candidate for employment as a clerical cadet who has passed the University Entrance Examination or the School Certificate Examination or who holds higher educational qualifications, the maximum age of the candidate at his or her last birthday before the date of the engagement of the candidate as a probationer may be extended by the General Manager to twenty years.
“ (1B) In the case of any male candidate for employment as an engineering cadet, an apprentice, or a clerk, or of any female candidate for employment in any occupation in the Salaried Division, the maximum age of the candidate at his or her last birthday before the date of the engagement of the candidate as a probationer may, in special circumstances, be extended by the General Manager at his discretion.
“ (1C) In the case of male candidates for employment as cleaners, preference may be given to any candidate who has not passed his twentieth birthday at the date of engagement.
“ (1D) In the case of male candidates for employment as porters, labourers (Traffic Branch or Permanent Way), bus drivers, service car drivers, or garage attendants, preference may be given to any candidate who has not passed his thirty-fifth birthday at the date of engagement.”
- The principal regulations are hereby amended by revoking regulation 22, and substituting the following regulation:—
“ 22 (1) The periods of probation in the case of probationers of the classes specified in this subclause shall be as follows:—

“ (2) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in subclause (1) of this regulation the General Manager may, in special circumstances, extend any of the probationary periods specified in that subclause for such period as he deems fit.
“ (3) In respect of any probationer (other than a probationer mechanic, probationer junior mechanic, or probationer apprentice) who has any period of service as a temporary employee immediately prior to his engagement as a probationer, the probationary period specified in subclause (1) of this regulation may be either waived by the General Manager or reduced to such period as the General Manager shall determine.
“ (4) Except as provided in subclause (3) of this regulation, no previous period of employment in the Department shall be taken into account in calculating the period of probation.”

Paragraph (e) of subclause (1) and subclause (2) of regulation 23 of the principal regulations, as set out in regulation 5 of the Government Railways Staff (Amending) Regulations 1946,† are hereby revoked.

The principal regulations are hereby amended by revoking regulation 83, and substituting the following regulation:—
“ 83. The General Manager or any officer authorized by him either generally or specially in that behalf may grant to any person free travel on the railways (including the free use of sleeping-berths).”
- Regulation 4 of the Government Railways (Staff) Amending Regulations 1950‡ is hereby amended by omitting the words “in excess of £860,” and substituting the words “in excess of £1,080.”

Appointing the Transport Licensing Appeal Authority Under the Transport Act, 1949

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Act, 1949, His Excellency the Governor-General doth hereby appoint His Honour Judge Kendrick Gee Archer, of Wellington, to be the Transport Licensing Appeal Authority for a term commencing on the 1st day of January, 1951, and expiring on the 31st day of December, 1951.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 5th day of December, 1950.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Transport Act, 1949, His Excellency the Governor-General doth hereby appoint His Honour Judge Kendrick Gee Archer, of Wellington, to be the Transport Charges Appeal Authority for a term commencing on the 1st day of January, 1951, and expiring on the 31st day of December, 1951.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General this 5th day of December, 1950.
