Appointment of Deputy Member of Land Valuation Committee

PURSUANT to section 19 of the Land Valuation Court Act, 1948, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

Frank Felix Reid, Esquire, Stipendiary Magistrate,

of Christchurch, to be the Deputy of Ernest Albert Lee, Esquire, Stipendiary Magistrate, Member of the South Canterbury Land Valuation Committee and to be the Deputy Chairman of the said Committee on and from the 13th day of November, now instant.

WHEREAS by section 167 of the Land Act, 1948, it is enacted that the the Governor-General may, from time to time, set apart as a reserve, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral lease or pastoral occupation licence, any Crown land for any purpose, which in his opinion, is desirable in the public interest, and notice thereof shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette :

Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the said Act, do hereby reserve the lands in the North Auckland, South Auckland, Hawke's Bay, and Canterbury Land Districts in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes specified at the end of the respective descriptions of the lands so intended to be reserved.

Appointing Members of the Tolaga Bay Harbour Board

WHEREAS it is provided by section 27 of the Harbours Act, 1950, that, if any constituent district or combined district fails at any election to elect the required number of representatives, the Governor-General may, by Warrant under his hand, appoint such qualified persons as he thinks fit to be the representatives of that district in lieu of those who ought to have been elected; and the persons so appointed shall hold office in all respects as if they had been duly elected in conformity with the said Act :

And whereas it is provided by the said Act that one member of the Tolaga Bay Harbour Board shall be elected by the electors of the Hauiti Riding of the County of Uawa ; and one member by the electors of the Mangatuna Riding of the County of Uawa :

And whereas at the elections held on the 18th day of November, 1950, the electors of the said Harbour Districts failed to elect any members to the said Board :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the hereinbefore-recited power and authority, doth hereby appoint the following to be members of the Tolaga Bay Harbour Board, to fill the vacancies caused by the before-mentioned failure to elect :—

Kenneth Ford Smith,

representing the electors of the Hauiti Riding of the County of Uawa ; and

Francis John Herbert,

representing the electors of the Mangatuna Riding of the County of Uawa.
