WAGES AND ALLOWANCES
- (a) The following rates of wages shall be payable :—

(b) Principal—For the purposes of this clause the following players shall be deemed to be “Principals” :—
Principal Second Violinist
Principal Viola Player
Principal 'Cellist
Principal Double Bass Player
Principal Flautist
Principal Oboe Player
Principal Clarinet Player
Principal Bassoon Player
First and Third French Horn Players
First Trumpet Player
First Trombone Player
Tympanist
Such other players as may from time to time be agreed upon by the Department and the New Zealand Musician’s Union.
(c) Bass Trombone—The bass trombone player shall be paid an allowance of 10s. a week in addition to his week’s normal wage.
(d) Dress and Instrument—A player shall be paid a dress allowance of £7 10s. a year and provided he provides his own instrument shall be paid an instrument allowance of £2 10s. a year.
(e) Doubling—A player shall be paid an allowance of 5s. for each day he is required to play an extra instrument. The Department and the New Zealand Musicians’ Union shall decide which instruments shall be deemed to be “extra instruments” for the purposes of this subclause.
TRAVELLING TIME AND ALLOWANCES
- (a) Travelling-time shall count as time worked with a maximum of five hours in any one journey which necessitates travelling up to twenty-four hours. Travelling-time on a Sunday or holiday prescribed in clause 4 hereof shall not be paid for at overtime or penal rate.
(b) While on tour a player shall be paid travelling-allowance at the following rate—
(i) On and from 19th February, 1949 : 22s. 6d. a day or part thereof.
(ii) On and from 16th May, 1949 : At the rate of 30s. a day.
(c) Every player while on tour shall be entitled to first-class train or steamer-express accommodation : Provided that where such accommodation is not available the player shall travel and be paid the amount (if any) by which the cost of the accommodation actually provided is less than the cost of first-class accommodation.
PAYMENT OF WAGES AND TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
-
(a) Players’ wages shall be paid weekly. A deduction shall be made from a player’s weekly wage only in respect of—
(i) Time lost through the player’s own default ;
(ii) Sick or accident leave in excess of the provision approved by the Public Service Commission ; or
(iii) Absence from work through no fault of the Department.
(b) Employment shall be deemed to be monthly employment and may be terminated by either party giving not less than one month’s prior notice of such termination.
