Special Order Made by the Waimea County Council Altering Riding Boundaries and Adjusting Representation

THE following special order made by the Waimea County Council is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1920, insofar as publication is required by that Act. Pursuant to section 100 of the aforesaid Act, as amended by section 3 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1921–22, I hereby fix the 1st day of October, 1950, as the date from which the redivision of the county into eight ridings as set out in the said special order shall take effect.

SPECIAL ORDER

In exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the Counties Act, 1920, the Waimea County Council resolves, by way of special order, as follows:—

“1. The present division of the County of Waimea into nine ridings is revoked, and in lieu thereof the said county shall be divided into eight ridings, to be called respectively, Whangamoa Riding, Stoke Riding, Appleby Riding, Wai-iti Riding, Wangapeka Riding, Central Riding, Motueka Riding, and Moutere Riding, which said ridings are respectively described in the Schedule hereto.

“2. The said Waimea County Council shall consist of nine Members, who shall be elected as follows:—

“(a) The electors of the Stoke Riding shall elect two Councillors.

“(b) The electors of the Whangamoa Riding, Appleby Riding, Wai-iti Riding, Wangapeka Riding, Central Riding, Motueka Riding, and Moutere Riding shall each elect one Councillor.”

SCHEDULE

Whangamoa Riding

ALL that area of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the County of Waimea, commencing on the sea-coast at Pukerau Point, being the northern extremity of the boundary line between the Waimea and Sounds Counties, and bounded generally as follows: Towards the north-west by the ocean to the Nelson Lighthouse; thence on the south-west and west by the City of Nelson (New Zealand Gazette 1950, page 1651) to its intersection with the boundary between the Waimea and Maungatapu Survey Districts; thence towards the west by the eastern boundary of the Waimea Survey District to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Rintoul Survey District; thence towards the south by the northern boundary of the Rintoul Survey District to its intersection with the boundary between the Nelson and Marlborough Land Districts; thence towards the south-east and east by this boundary to the point of commencement; including Pepins Island and all tidal mud-flats within the said area.

Stoke Riding

All that area of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the County of Waimea, commencing at a point on the sea-coast, being the south-eastern extremity of Parkers Road, City of Nelson (New Zealand Gazette 1950, page 1651), and bounded generally as follows: Towards the north-east by the City of Nelson, aforesaid, to its intersection with the boundary between the Waimea and Maungatapu Survey Districts; thence towards the east by the Whangamoa Riding as hereinbefore described to the confluence of the Roding River and the United Stream; thence across a road reserve to the north-eastern corner of Section 12, Block XII, Waimea Survey District; thence towards the south and south-west by the said Section 12 and Sections 9 and 5 in Block XII, aforesaid, to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 58, Square 1, thence by a crossing of the Roding River and a public road and by that boundary to and across a public road and by the northern boundaries of Sections 57 and 56, Square 1, to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 5, Block VII, Waimea Survey District, by a crossing of a public road and by the aforesaid boundary of Section 5 and a public road to the boundary of the Borough of Richmond (New Zealand Gazette 1917, page 4194); thence towards the north-west by that boundary to the sea-coast; thence by the sea-coast to the point of commencement; including No. 1 Island and Oyster Island and all tidal mud-flats situated in Block III, Waimea Survey District.

Appleby Riding

All that area of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the County of Waimea commencing at a point on the sea-coast, being the northernmost corner of the Borough of Richmond (New Zealand Gazette 1917, page 4194), and bounded generally as follows: Towards the north-east by the said borough to its intersection with the Stoke Riding as hereinbefore described; thence towards the north by the said Stoke Riding to its intersection with the Whangamoa Riding as hereinbefore described; thence again towards the north and towards the east by the Whangamoa Riding to the north-eastern corner of Block XVI, Waimea Survey District; thence towards the south generally by the boundary of the said Block XVI, and by Sections 4, 2, and 1 of the aforesaid Block XVI, and Section 9, Block XV, to the north-eastern boundary of Section 104, Square 1, by the production of that boundary to and across a public road and the Serpentine River; thence by that river to the northernmost corner of Section 101, Square 1; thence towards the south-east by the north-western boundary of the said Section 101, Square 1, to and across a public road and again by the aforesaid boundary to a public road on the eastern boundary of Section 3, Block XV, Waimea Survey District; thence again towards the south generally by the said Section 3 and Section 6, Block XIV, of the aforesaid District, and Section 81, Square 1, to the northern bank of the Lee River; thence to the centre of the said river and by the centre-line of that river and the Roding and Wairoa Rivers to a point in line with the production of the north-eastern boundary of Section 8, Waimea South District; thence towards the south-west by the said boundary produced and by that boundary to its northernmost corner; thence towards the south-east by the said Section 8 and Section 9, Waimea South District, to a point in line with the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Section 55, Waimea South District, and by that road to its intersection with the Nelson–Westport State Highway; thence by a crossing of that highway and by that highway to a road forming the north-eastern boundary of Section 39, Waimea South District, and by that road and its production to the centre of the Wai-iti River; thence by the centre-line of that river to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 1 of 161, Waimea West District; thence by a right line to and across a public road on the northern bank of the said river; thence towards the south-west generally by that road and the road forming the north-eastern boundary of part Section 113, Waimea South District, to the south-eastern boundary of Section 10 of 112, Waimea South District; thence by the said Section 10 of 112, Sections 12 of 112 and 11 of 112, Waimea South District; thence towards the west generally by Sections 17 and 13, Square 2, to and across a public road; thence by Sections 13, 14, 15, 24, and 25, Block VIII, Wai-iti Survey District, Section 136, Square 2, to and across Eves Valley Road and by Sections 2 of 1 and 4 of 1, Waimea West District, and Sections 11 and 56, Block VIII, Wai-iti Survey District; thence towards the north and north-west generally by Sections 57, 58, and 59, Square 2, to the road forming the south-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section and by that road to the south-western corner of Section 74, Waimea West District; thence by the said Section 74 and Section 72, Waimea West District, to the intersection of the Nelson–Collingwood State Highway with Redwoods Road and by that road to the sea-coast; thence towards the north-east by the sea-coast to the point of commencement and including Islands Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Waimea East District, and all tidal mud-flats.

Wai-iti Riding

All that area of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Waimea County, commencing at a point on the boundary between the Nelson and Marlborough Land Districts, being the south-eastern corner of the Maungatapu Survey District, and bounded generally as follows: Towards the south-east by the boundary between the Nelson and Marlborough Land Districts to the north-eastern corner of Block IV, Motupiko Survey District; thence towards the south by Blocks IV and III of the said District; thence towards the west by Blocks XIV and X, Gordon Survey District, to the south-eastern boundary of part Section 9, Square 45; thence towards the west generally by the said part Section 9, Section 8 and part Section 10, Square 45, by the old Belgrove–Tophouse Road to Reays Saddle, by a crossing of the aforesaid road and through State forest by the old Mt. Norris Ridge Road (now closed), to its intersection with a road forming the boundary between parts of Section 13, Square 5, and part Run No. 22, Block II, Gordon Survey District; thence by that road to and across the Nelson–Glenhope Railway; thence by that railway to the south-eastern corner of Section 27, Block I, Gordon Survey District; thence by the said Section 27, Sections 1 and 6, Block I, aforesaid, by Sections 40, 31, 41, 32, 33, and 34, Block XIV, Sections 31, 30, and 20, Block X, all of Wai-iti Survey District; thence towards the north generally by Section 22, and across a public road, and by Sections 9, 8, 10, and 17, Block X, aforesaid; thence by Sections 33 and 34, Block XI, 16, 20, 21, 24, and 23, Block VII, all of Wai-iti Survey District thence by Section 181, Square 2, Section 22, Block VII, aforesaid, Section 184, Square 2, to and across Drons Road and by the northern side of that road to the Appleby Riding hereinbefore described; thence towards the north-east and north generally by that riding to its intersection with the Whangamoa Riding hereinbefore described; thence towards the east and again towards the north by the last-mentioned riding to the point of commencement.

Wangapeka Riding

All that area of land in the Nelson Land District, situated in the County of Waimea, commencing at a point on the boundary between the Nelson and Marlborough Land Districts, being the south-eastern corner of the Rintoul Survey District and bounded generally as follows: Towards the south-east by the boundary between the Nelson and Marlborough Land Districts and the boundary-line between the Waimea and Amuri Counties; thence towards the south-west by the boundary line between the Waimea and Murchison Counties; thence towards the north-west by the boundary-line between the Waimea and Buller Counties to its intersection with the boundary between the Nelson and Motueka Harbour Board Districts; thence towards the north by the Motueka Harbour Board District (New Zealand Statute 1905, page 762, and section 84 of the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1923), to its intersection with a public road forming the eastern boundary of Section 21, Block I, Wai-iti Survey District, thence by that road to the northernmost corner of Section 14, Block I, aforesaid; thence towards the north-east by the aforesaid Section 14 and Sections 15, 16, and 17, Block I, aforesaid, to and across the Thorpe–Stanley Brook Road and by that road to the south-western boundary of Section 80, Square 6, and by that boundary and the abutment of a public road; thence by that road to the south-western corner of Section 137, Square 6, thence by the southern boundary of the said Section 137 to its intersection with the western boundary of Section 138, Square 6; thence by the aforesaid Section 138, Square 6, and Sections 3, 29, 26, 31, 30, and 21, Block VI, Wai-iti Survey District to the old Stanley Brook Wakefield Road and by that road to the Wai-iti Riding hereinbefore described; thence towards the east and north by the aforesaid Wai-iti Riding to the point of commencement.
