Proclaiming a Tribal District Under the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945

A PROCLAMATION

Pursuant to section 6 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard
Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby declare the parts of New Zealand described in
the Schedule hereto to be a tribal district for the purposes of the
said Act, and do hereby assign to the said district the name Tuhoе-
Manawaru Tribal District.

SCHEDULE

TUHOE-MANAWARU TRIBAL DISTRICT

All that area in the Auckland and Gisborne Land Districts, bounded
by a line commencing at the south-eastern corner of Block VIII,
Galatea Survey District; thenсe proceeding easterly along the
southern boundaries of Blocks V, VI, and .VII, Urewera Survey
District, to the watershed between the Whakatane and Tauranga-
Waimana Rivers; thenсe southerly along that watershed to the
southern boundary of Urewera Survey District; thenсe easterly
along that boundary and the southern boundary of Waioeka South
Survey District to the western boundary of Tahora Block; thenсe
southerly along that boundary to its intersection with a right line
between Maungatapere and Maungapohatu Trig. Stations; thenсe
westerly along that line to Maungapohatu Trig. Station; thenсe
south-easterly along a right line in the direction of Puketapu Trig.
Station to its intersection with the north-western boundary of
Waipaoa Block; thenсe south-westerly along that north-western
boundary, passing through Trig. Stations Koranga West and Puke-
puke, to its intersection with a right line between Puketapu Trig.
Station and the northernmost point of Lake Waikaremoana; thenсe
westerly along that right line to Lake Waikaremoana and along a
right line to Te Taumutu Trig. Station in Block XVI, Heruіwi
Survey District; thenсe north-westerly along a right line to the
southernmost corner of Waireporepo Block in Block X, Ahikereru
Survey District; thenсe along the south-eastern boundary of that
block to its north-eastern corner; thenсe along a right line to the
south-eastern corner of Block VIII, Galatea Survey District, the
point of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General
of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the
Seal of that Dominion, this 6th day of July, 1950.

Varying a Proclamation Proclaiming a Tribal District Under the
Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

A PROCLAMATION

Pursuant to section 6 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard
Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby vary the Proclamation made on the 18th day
of November, 1947, and published in the Gazette on the 8th day of
January, 1948, at page 4, declaring certain parts of New Zealand to
be a tribal district for the purposes of the said Act, by excluding from
the Schedule thereto the description of the Southern Tuhoе Tribal
District and substituting therefor the description appearing in the
Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE

SOUTHERN TUHOE TRIBAL DISTRICT

All that area in the Auckland Land District bounded by a line
commencing at Putauaki (Mount Edgecumbe) Trig. Station in
Block XIII, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, and proceeding
easterly along right lines to the north-eastern corner of Allotment
60H, Rangitaiki Parish in Block XV, Rangitaiki Upper Survey
District, and to the north-eastern corner of Allotment 60D, Rangi-
taiki Parish; thenсe southerly along the eastern boundaries of
Allotments 60D and 60C, Rangitaiki Parish, to the south-eastern
corner of the said Allotment 60C; thenсe westerly along the southern
boundary of that allotment to Tapapakiakia Trig. Station; thenсe
south-westerly and south-easterly along right lines to Te Hiwera
and Taumatamiri Trig. Stations in Block IV, Rangitaiki Lower
Survey District; thenсe south-easterly along a right line in the
direction of Kaipurapuna Trig. Station to its intersection with the
eastern boundary of Block VIII, Rangitaiki Lower Survey District;
thenсe southerly along the eastern boundaries of Blocks VIII, XII,
and XVI, Rangitaiki Lower Survey District, and of Blocks IV and
VIII, Galatea Survey District, to the south-eastern corner of the
said Block VIII; thenсe south-westerly along a right line to the
north-eastern corner of Waireporepo Block in Block XI, Ahikereru
Survey District; thenсe along the south-eastern boundary of that
block to its southernmost corner; thenсe along a right line to Te
Taumutu Trig. Station in Block XVI, Heruіwi Survey District;
thenсe westerly along a right line to Trig. Station Pukeroa in Block
XI, Heruіwi Survey District; thenсe northerly along a right line
in the direction of Tiritiri Trig. Station to the intersection with the
production of a right line between Trig. Station 4 in Block VII,
Heruіwi Survey District, and the southernmost point of Lot 9 on the
plan numbered 21389, deposited in the office of the District Land
Registrar at Auckland; thenсe westerly to and along that right line
to the southernmost point of Lot 9 aforesaid; thenсe northerly along
the eastern boundary of that lot to Ngapuketura Trig. Station in
Block VI, Heruіwi Survey District; thenсe northerly along a right
line to Wairapukao Trig. Station in Block VI, Wheao Survey
District; thenсe westerly along the southern boundaries of Kainga-
roa 1A South and 1A North Blocks to the south-western corner of
the last-mentioned block; thenсe northerly along the western
boundary of the said 1A Block to its northernmost corner; thenсe
along a right line to Trig Station 38A in Block IX, Kaingaroa Survey
District; thenсe easterly along a right line to Trig. Station H in
Block V, Galatea Survey District; thenсe northerly along a right
line to Putauaki Trig Station, the point of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General
of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the
Seal of that Dominion, this 11th day of July 1950.
