Notice to Mariners No. 28 of 1950

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—OTAGO HARBOUR
Lighted Leading Beacons

Previous Notice: No. 22 of 1950 hereby cancelled.

Position: Rear leading beacon. Lat., 45° 47′ S.; long., 170° 42′·8 E. (approx.).

Details: The following navigational aids will be brought into operation on 30th May, 1950:—

  1. A triangular-shaped beacon, apex down, with red and white horizontal stripes, width 10 ft. and height 14 ft., has been erected on the sandhills at North Spit, 225 ft. 089°·5 from the rear beacon above. A red light flashing every 3 seconds, flash 0·3 seconds, height 27 ft., visible 3 miles, is exhibited. This beacon when in transit with the front leading beacon indicates the mole end, and further seaward the 30 ft. contour on the western edge of the entrance channel.

  2. A triangular-shaped beacon, apex down, with red and white alternate quarters, width 10 ft. and height 14 ft., has been erected on the sandhills at North Spit, 106 ft. 300°·5 from the rear beacon above. A green light flashing every 3 seconds, flash 0·3 seconds, height 37 ft., visible 3 miles, is exhibited. This beacon when in transit with the front leading beacon indicates the 30 ft. contour on the eastern edge of the entrance channel.

  3. The lighted buoy previously marking the mole end will not be replaced.

Shoal Reported

Position: Lat., 41° 19′·4 S.; long., 174° 50′·8 E. (approx.).

Details: A shoal patch with a least depth of 18 ft. M.L.W.S. has been located in position 341° 500 ft. (approx.) from Steeple Rock Light Beacon. The area has not been swept.
