Appointment of Another Member of the Royal Commission Constituted to Inquire Into and Report Upon Matters and Questions Relating to Certain Leases of Maori Land Vested in Maori Land Boards

GEORGE THE SIXTH by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith :

To Our Trusty and Well-beloved DOUGLAS JAMES DALGLISH, of Wellington, a Deputy Judge of the Court of Arbitration, HUBERT MAXWELL CHRISTIE, of Wellington, Company Director, and RICHARD ORMSBY, of Te Kuiti, Farmer:

GREETING :

WHEREAS by Our Warrant of date the 14th day of November, 1949, issued under the authority of the Letters Patent of His late Majesty dated the 11th day of May, 1917, and under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, the late Sir Michael Myers, and you the said Hubert Maxwell Christie, and Richard Ormsby were appointed a Commission to inquire into and report upon matters and questions relating to certain leases of Maori lands vested in Maori Land Boards :

And whereas the said Sir Michael Myers died after the members of the Commission had entered upon their labours but before they had made any report thereof, and it is desirable to appoint another member and a new Chairman of the said Commission :

Now know Ye that We, reposing trust and confidence in your impartiality, knowledge, and ability do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint you, the said

Douglas James Dalglish,
Hubert Maxwell Christie, and
Richard Ormsby,

to be the Commissioners and members of the said Commission for the purposes and with the powers and subject to the directions, specified in the said Warrant :

And We do hereby appoint you, the said

Douglas James Dalglish,

to be Chairman of the said Commission :

And We hereby confirm the said Warrant and the Commission thereby constituted save as modified by these presents.

In witness whereof We have caused this Our Commission to be issued and the Seal of Our Dominion of New Zealand to be hereunto affixed at Wellington, this 26th day of April, in the year of our Lord 1950, and in the 14th year of Our Reign.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARTILLERY

Regular Force—

With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 18, dated 30th March, 1950, relative to the transfer of Temp. Major (on prob.) S. W. Nicholson, D.S.O., E.D., to the Reserve of Officers, for “ Dated 1st March, 1950 ”, substitute “ Dated 14th March, 1950 ”.

Captain (temp. Major) R. de la Cour to be Major. Dated 21st April, 1950.

Territorial Force—

Temp. Captain H. G. Nathan, 1st Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A., to be Major. Dated 19th February, 1950.

Lieutenant R. G. Milligan, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 28th October, 1947, and is posted to the 13th Composite Anti-aircraft Regiment, R.N.Z.A. Dated 1st December, 1948.

With reference to the notice published in the N.Z. Gazette No. 12, dated 23rd February, 1950, relative to the appointment of Jack Bennett Gascoigne, for “ with seniority from 15th December, 1947 ”, substitute “ with seniority from 15th February, 1947 ”.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ARMOURED CORPS

Territorial Force—

Lieutenant N. H. Moody, 1st Divisional Regiment, R.N.Z.A.C. (New Zealand Scottish), to be Captain. Dated 22nd March, 1950.

Lieutenant A. J. Donaldson, from the Retired List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 8th January, 1948, and is posted to the 1st Divisional Regiment, R.N.Z.A.C. (New Zealand Scottish). Dated 1st December, 1948.

2nd Lieutenant P. H. Edmonds, from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st December, 1948, and is posted to the 1st Divisional Regiment, R.N.Z.A.C. (New Zealand Scottish). Dated 1st December, 1948.

THE ROYAL N.Z. ENGINEERS

Territorial Force—

Temp. Captain T. L. Fancourt, 3rd Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E., is transferred to the 1st Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E., with the rank of Captain, with seniority from 1st May, 1942. Dated 20th April, 1950.

Lieutenant W. H. Harvey, M.C., 5th Assault Squadron, R.N.Z.E., to be Captain. Dated 1st March, 1950.

Lieutenant J. S. Callaway, 5th Assault Squadron, R.N.Z.E., to be Captain. Dated 1st March, 1950.

Temp. Lieutenant A. L. King, 1st Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E., to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 10th March, 1944. Dated 1st December, 1948.

Lieutenant A. K. Fagan, 3rd Field Squadron, R.N.Z.E., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Regimental List, The Royal N.Z. Engineers, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 16th January, 1947. Dated 11th April, 1950.

THE ROYAL N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS

Territorial Force—

Lieutenant F. W. Coventry, 2nd Composite Squadron, R.N.Z. Sigs., is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Corps of Signals, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st December, 1948. Dated 29th March, 1950.

THE ROYAL N.Z. INFANTRY CORPS

Regular Force—

N.Z. Regiment—

Lieutenant and Quartermaster J. E. Hobson, M.B.E., to be Temp. Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 1st November, 1949.

William Phillips Hughes is granted a short-service commission for a period of three years as from 1st April, 1950, in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 1st April, 1945, and is appointed Personnel Selection Officer, Northern Military District, Auckland. Dated 1st April, 1950.

Ronald Edwin Greaves is granted a short-service commission for a period of five years as from 17th April, 1950, in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 17th April, 1945, and is appointed Education Officer, Northern Military District Training Camp, Papakura. Dated 17th April, 1950.

Territorial Force—

The Auckland Regiment (Countess of Ranfurly’s Own)—

Temp. Major V. C. Butler ceases to be seconded to the Takapuna Grammar School Cadets and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Major, with seniority from 30th October, 1944. Dated 24th March, 1950.

Temp. Captain A. R. Gough ceases to be seconded to the Northcote College Cadets and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Captain, with seniority from 1st January, 1948. Dated 6th March, 1950.

The Hauraki Regiment—

Temp. Captain H. G. Keeley, 1st Battalion, is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Captain. Dated 27th March, 1950.

Temp. Lieutenant N. H. N. Thompson, M.M., 1st Battalion, is posted to the Retired List with the rank of Captain. Dated 20th February, 1950.

Temp. Lieutenant J. A. Worth, 1st Battalion, resigns his commission. Dated 31st March, 1950.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) F. A. Mathieson, seconded to the Hamilton Technical College Cadets, is confirmed.

The North Auckland Regiment—

Lieutenant L. A. Harvey, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Regimental List, The North Auckland Regiment, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 24th February, 1948. Dated 15th March, 1950.

The appointment of 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) K. A. Hart, seconded to the Northland College Cadets, is confirmed.

Te Rawhiti Ihaka to be 2nd Lieutenant (on prob.) and is seconded to the Dargaville District High School Cadets, Area 3. Dated 1st February, 1950.

The Waikato Regiment (disbanded)—

Lieutenant R. W. Connell, 1st Battalion, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 27th January, 1944. Dated 13th April, 1950.
