6. HOLIDAYS

(a) Provided he has worked for the Department at any time during the fortnight ending on the day on which the holiday occurs, a worker shall be allowed the following holidays on pay: New Year’s Day, Day after New Year’s Day, Anniversary Day of the Province of Auckland, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Sovereign’s Birthday, Labour Day, Christmas Day, Boxing Day.

(b) A worker who has worked for more than one employer during the fortnight ending on the day on which the holiday occurs is entitled to one payment only for the holiday, and payment will be by arrangement between the officer in charge and the other employer or employers.

(c) When any of the above holidays, except Anzac Day, falls on a Saturday or a Sunday it shall be observed on the following Monday, and, in the event of another holiday falling on such Monday, such other holiday shall be observed on the next succeeding Tuesday.

(d) Payment for such holidays allowed shall be for eight hours at ordinary time rate, plus any shift allowance which would have been paid had the holiday been an ordinary working day.

(e) Time worked on any of the above holidays shall be paid for at double time rate in addition to the holiday payment due under subclause (d) above.

(f) A worker who meets with an accident in the course of his employment with the Department (and whether or not receiving accident compensation) shall be entitled to payment for any of the above holidays (but not in addition to accident compensation) which occurs during the period of incapacity provided he has worked for the Department at any time during the fortnight ending on the day of the holiday.

(g) A worker who has been certified as fit to resume work on any of the above holidays, following sick-leave or absence because of an accident, and who reports for duty on the working day immediately following such holiday, shall be paid for such holiday.

(h) The principle of the Annual Holidays’ Act, 1944, shall be applied, provided that every worker after completing ten years’ continuous service with the Department, shall be granted three weeks’ holidays every year.

7. WAGES

(a) The following rates of wages shall be payable:—

(b) The ordinary hourly rate for a worker while in charge of at least three workers other than himself, shall be increased by 2d. an hour.

(c) The ordinary hourly rate for a worker while driving a truck or operating a mechanical shovel, grab, loader, and the like shall be increased by 2d. an hour.

8. ALLOWANCES

(a) Meal.—Where a worker is required to work not less than two hours’ overtime he shall be paid a meal allowance of 2s. 6d.

(b) Ash Floor.—While removing ashes on the ash-floor with a barrow or hand shovel a trimmer shall be paid an allowance of 1d. an hour.

(c) Bunker.—A worker while employed in a bunker when on fire shall be paid an allowance of 9d. an hour but not in addition to the dirty work and/or heat allowances prescribed in subclauses (d) and (e) below.

(d) Dirty Work.—Where, in the opinion of the Station Superintendent any work being performed is “dirty work” an allowance of 3d. an hour (with a minimum of 1s. a day) shall be paid. This classification shall apply to work which is abnormal to ordinary trade or working conditions, and provided the power-station is under steam or cleaning has not been done after steaming, shall include—

(i) Cleaning of all boiler-drums.

(ii) Brushing condenser-tubes, cleaning inside circulating pipes and flumes.

(iii) Cleaning soot-side only of all boiler-tubes.

(iv) Brushing down the headers of all boilers and C.T.M. economizers.

(v) Taking off and putting on caps of back headers (only) of W.I.F. boilers and super-heater caps of all boilers.

(vi) Cleaning the soot-side of the economizers of C.T.M. boilers.

(vii) Cleaning inside main-feed and corrosion tanks.

(viii) Repairing stoker grates.

(ix) Cement-washing drums and tubes.

(x) Cleaning work inside ash chambers.
