IT is hereby notified that at the annual meeting of the Council
of the Royal Society of New Zealand held on the 25th May,
1948—

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has, in pursuance of
section 49 of the Public Reserves, Domains, and National
Parks Act, 1928, been pleased to make the following appointments :—
Samuel Jones, and
Donald Glenwyn Ivey,
to be members of the Ruapuna Domain Board in place of Thomas
Bennett, deceased, and Robert Walter Holland, left the district.
Walter Alfred Newton
to be a member of the Ataahua Domain Board in place of Ian
Sholto Douglas, left the district.
Charles Rowland Joseph Stanton
to be a member of the Simson Park Domain Board in place of
Joseph Patrick Cotter, resigned.
Cecil Keith Meharry
to be a member of the Kokatahi Domain Board in place of James

Appointments in the Public Service
Office of the Public Service Commission,

THE Public Service Commission has made the following appoint-
ments in the Public Service :—

Bernard William Devine
to be Inspectors for the purposes of the Orchard and Garden Diseases
Act, 1928, on and from the 1st day of August, 1949.

Warrant Declaring Buildings and Places to be Detention Barracks
WHEREAS it is provided by Regulation 476 of the Regulations
for the New Zealand Military Forces 1927, that “detention
barrack” means any building or place in the possession of the
Crown (not being a prison or police-gaol under the Prisons Act, 1908),
declared by the Minister of Defence, by Warrant gazetted, to be
a detention barrack for the purpose of the Army Act :
Now, therefore, pursuant to the provisions of the said regulation,
I, Frederick Jones, Minister of Defence for the Dominion of New
Zealand, do hereby declare the buildings and place known as
The service detention-rooms, Lauthala Bay, Suva,
to be a detention barrack for the purpose of the Army Act.

Exemption Order Under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940
PURSUANT to the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940, the Minister
of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the pro-
visions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the said regulations, so far
as they relate to the driving of heavy trade motors, shall not apply
to the persons hereinafter mentioned, but in lieu thereof the following
provision shall apply :—
A motor-driver’s licence issued under the Motor-drivers Regu-
lations 1940 to any one of the persons described in Column 1 of the
Schedule hereunder may authorize him to drive a heavy trade motor in
the course of his employment on a farm or market garden of the
respective employer described in column 2 of the said Schedule,
but shall not authorize him, while he is under the age of eighteen
years, to drive a heavy trade motor for any other purpose.

Approval of Application by Petone Borough Council for Declaration
of a Zone of Parking Restriction
PURSUANT to Regulation 3 of the Traffic Sign Regulations 1937,
as amended by the Traffic Sign Regulations 1937, Amendment
No. 1, the Minister of Transport doth hereby approve of the applica-
tion made by the Petone Borough Council for a declaration that the
continuous parking of motor-vehicles shall be restricted to a maxi-
mum period of sixty minutes for any vehicle between the hours of
8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the zone of parking restriction described in
the Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE
ALL that part of Jackson Street commencing at its meeting with
Cuba Street and ending at its meeting with Victoria Street.

Amending Speed Limitations Imposed Under the Motor-vehicles
Amendment Act 1936, Section 3
IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936,
and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf the Minister
of Transport doth hereby revoke that portion of the Warrant dated
the 21st day of December, 1936,* in so far as it applies to the roads
described in the First Schedule hereto and doth hereby exclude
those portions of roads described in the Second Schedule hereto
from the limitation as to speed imposed by the said section.
FIRST SCHEDULE
SITUATED within Glen Eden Town District—
Auckland–Helensville–Waiwera Main Highway No. 13 (all that
portion within Glen Eden Town District, a distance of
approximately 46 chains).
Waikumete – West Coast Main Highway No. 387 (all that portion
from its junction with the Auckland–Helensville–Waiwera
Main Highway at the north-eastern boundary of Glen Eden
Town District to its junction with Scott Road, a distance
of approximately 63 chains; and all that portion from
its junction with Station Road to the western boundary
of Glen Eden Town District, a distance of approximately
56 chains).
SECOND SCHEDULE
SITUATED within Glen Eden Town District—
Auckland–Helensville State Highway No. 6 (all that portion
within Glen Eden Town District, a distance of approximately
46 chains).
Waikumete – West Coast Main Highway No. 387 (all that
portion from the junction of the said main highway with
the Auckland–Helensville State Highway at the north-
eastern boundary of Glen Eden Town District to the
junction of the said main highway with Croydon Road, a
distance of approximately 18 chains; and all that portion
from the junction of the said main highway with Station
Road to the western boundary of the Glen Eden Town
District, a distance of approximately 56 chains).
