Appointments in the Public Service

THE Public Service Commission has made the following appointments in the Public Service :—
Albert Edward Hynes
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Gisborne for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Gisborne Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 26th day of April, 1949.
Frank Edward French
to be an Officer for the purposes of Parts I and II of the Fisheries Act, 1908, on and from the 16th day of May, 1949.
Cecil Pretoria Simmonds
to be Registrar of Electors for the Electoral Districts of Palmerston North and Manawatu for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Electoral and Licensing District of Palmerston North for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and the Licensing Act, 1908, and their amendments, on and from the 30th day of May, 1949.
Arthur Grant Harper
to be Clerk of the Writs in the Dominion of New Zealand as provided by section 100 (1) of the Electoral Act, 1929, as from the 1st day of October, 1948.
Mathew Fabian Dawson
to be an Assistant Land Registrar for the purposes of section 4 (2) of the Land Transfer Act, 1915, on and from the 17th day of June, 1949.
James Alexander Fyfe
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of New Plymouth for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the New Plymouth Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 2nd day of May, 1949.
Andrew Boyd Thomson
to be Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Island Bay for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Wellington South Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 10th day of June, 1949.
James Joseph King
to be Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer for the Electoral District of Nelson for the purposes of the Electoral Act, 1927, and its amendments, and Returning Officer for the Nelson Licensing District for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, and its amendments, on and from the 2nd day of June, 1949.

Exemption Order Under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940
PURSUANT to the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940*, the Minister of Transport doth hereby order and declare that the provisions of clause (1) of Regulation 7 of the said regulations, so far as they relate to the driving of heavy trade motors, shall not apply to the persons hereinafter mentioned, but in lieu thereof the following provision shall apply :—
A motor-driver’s licence issued under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940 to the persons described in Column 1 of the Schedule hereunder may authorize him to drive a heavy trade motor in the course of his employment on a farm or market garden of the respective employer described in Column 2 of the said Schedule, but shall not authorize him, while he is under the age of eighteen years, to drive a heavy trade motor for any other purpose.

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Revocation of Notice of Intention to Take Lands
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, notice was given of the intention of the Minister of Lands to take under Part II of the said Act the lands described in the Schedule hereto, and a copy of the said notice was published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 16 on the 27th day of March, 1947, at page 380 :
And whereas objections were made by the owners and other persons having an interest in the said lands in the manner prescribed by the said Act, objecting to the taking of the said lands :
And whereas the Minister of Lands has decided not to proceed with action to take the said lands :
Now, therefore, the Minister of Lands, acting in pursuance of subsection (4) of section 24 of the said Act doth hereby revoke his notice of intention to take the said lands.
SCHEDULE
MARLBOROUGH LAND DISTRICT
ALL that parcel of land containing by admeasurement one thousand five hundred and forty-one (1,541) acres, more or less, situated in Block XVIII, Cape Campbell Survey District, and Block X, Whernside Survey District, being all the land on Deposited Plan 1003, and being Sections 218, 219, 220, 221, 222, and part of Sections 216, 217, and 223, Flaxbourne Run, part of Sections 62, 63, 64, 168, and 169, Flaxbourne District, and Section 3 and part of Sections 4, and 5, Block X, Whernside Survey District, and being the whole of the land comprised in certificate of title, Vol. 27, folio 25 (Marlborough Registry.)
Also all that parcel of land containing by admeasurement one thousand and twenty-four (1,024) acres two (2) roods one decimal eight (1·8) perches, more or less, situated in Blocks X and XV, Whernside Survey District, being Sections 224, 225, and part of Section 223, Flaxbourne Run, part of Sections 166, 167, 168, and 170, Flaxbourne District, and part of Section 6, Waipapa District; being part of the land in Deposited Plan 946, together with rights-of-way created by transfers Nos. 2491 and 12888 as appurtenant to parts of the above-described land, and subject to right-of-way and other rights granted by Transfer No. 2492 over part of the above-described land, and being the whole of the land comprised and described in certificate of title, Vol, 39, folio 208 (Marlborough Registry).

The Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943.—Notice Declaring Land Taken for the Settlement of Discharged Servicemen
WHEREAS, pursuant to section 24 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, notice was given of the intention of the Minister of Lands to take under Part II of the said Act the land described in the Schedule hereto, and a copy of the said notice was published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 26 on the 28th day of April, 1949, at page 970 :
And whereas no objection was made in the manner prescribed by the said Act objecting to the taking of the said land :
And whereas the Land Valuation Committee did on the 9th day of June, 1949, make an order determining that the said land is farm land suitable or adaptable for the settlement of a discharged serviceman or of two or more discharged servicemen :
And whereas no appeal was made from the said Order within the time prescribed by the said Act or within any further time allowed by the Court :
