HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL

IN exercise of the authority vested in him by the Gaming Poll Act, 1948, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, doth hereby fix Wednesday, the ninth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, as the date for the taking of the special poll of electors on the proposal for off-course betting, and doth also fix Monday, the fourteenth day of February, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, as the day on which the rolls for this poll shall close.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in him by the Valuation of Land Act, 1925, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby order and direct that the District Valuation Rolls for the City of Wellington shall be revised by the Valuer-General as at the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine.

Extending Period Within Which the Commission Appointed to Inquire Into and Report on Treatment of Press Representatives—“Kaka” Aircraft Disaster—Shall Report

To all of whom these presents shall come, and to the HONOURABLE SIR HAROLD FEATHERSTON JOHNSTON, K.C.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the thirteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight, you, the said the Honourable Sir Harold Featherston Johnston, K.C., were appointed under the authority of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, to be a Commission of Inquiry for the purposes in the said Warrant duly set out :

And whereas you were by such Warrant required to report to me not later than the thirty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight, your finding and opinions on the matter referred to you, together with such recommendations as you might think fit to make in respect thereof :

And whereas it is expedient that the time for so reporting should be extended as hereinafter provided :

Now, therefore, I do hereby extend to the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, the time within which you are so required to report :

And I do hereby confirm the said Commission and the Warrant hereinbefore referred to except as altered by these presents.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 20th day of January, 1949.

WHEREAS by Warrant dated the twenty-eighth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and forty-eight, you, the said Herbert Edgar Evans,
George William Clinkard,
Andrew John Park,
Stuart Wentworth Innes-Ker Peterson, and
John Ralfe Smith

were appointed under the authority of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, to be a Commission of Inquiry for the purposes in the said Warrant set out :

And whereas by the said Warrant you were required to report to me not later than the thirty-first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, your findings and opinions on the matters referred to you :

And whereas it is expedient that the time for so reporting should be extended as hereinafter provided :

Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1908, and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, do hereby extend until the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, the time within which you are so required to report :

And, in further pursuance of the said powers and authorities, and with the like advice and consent, I do hereby confirm the said Commission and the said Warrant except as altered by these presents.

Authorizing Certain Magistrates' Courts to Deal with Matters Under the Destitute Persons Act, 1910

PURSUANT to subsection three of section four of the Magistrates' Courts Act, 1947, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby authorize the Magistrates' Courts held in the cities, boroughs, and other places named in the Schedule hereto, being places previously appointed as places in which Magistrates' Courts may be held for the exercise of criminal jurisdiction to deal with matters arising under the Destitute Persons Act, 1910, or under any rules or regulations made under that Act.

Judge of Assessment Court Under Urban Farm Land Rating Act, 1932, Appointed

PURSUANT to section nine of the Urban Farm Land Rating Act, 1932, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, hereby appoint

Archibald Albany McLachlan, Esquire, Stipendiary Magistrate, Wellington,

to be the Judge of the Assessment Court for the Borough of Upper Hutt.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 21st day of January, 1949.

Authorizing the Franklin County Council to Sell Timber Upon Portion of an Unnamed Road in the Franklin County

PURSUANT to section one hundred and forty of the Public Works Act, 1928, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby authorize the Franklin County Council to sell or contract to sell and remove timber upon portion of an unnamed road adjoining Lots 1 and 2, D.P. 19005, and Allotments 25, 26, 27, and 43 of Suburban Section 3, Parish of Pukekohe. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 128204, deposited in the office of the Minister of Works at Wellington, and thereon coloured blue.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, this 21st day of January, 1949.
