Prison Proclaimed

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled the Prisons Act, 1908, it is provided that the Governor-General may from time to time by Proclamation declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a prison; and that from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation, or from any later time specified therein, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed to be a prison:
Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the buildings erected on the land described in the Schedule hereto, and all enclosures used or occupied therewith shall, from and after the date of the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison, to be known as the Addington Reformatory for Women, within the meaning and for the purposes of the Prisons Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District situated in the City of Christchurch, containing by admeasurement 2 acres 3 roods 15 perches, more or less, being part Reserve 3894. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 6/7/247, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. (Canterbury S.O. Plan 7904L.)
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion this 24th day of May, 1949.

Revoking Proclamation Declaring a Prison

A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in pursuance of the powers vested in him by section 4 of the Prisons Act, 1908, the Governor-General did, by Proclamation dated the twenty-eighth day of June, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the eleventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and twelve, declare a certain building and land as described in the Schedule thereto to be a prison, known as the Addington Prison, within the meaning and for the purposes of the Prisons Act, 1908:
And whereas by a Proclamation dated the sixth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the eighth day of November, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, it was proclaimed that the said prison be known as the Addington Reformatory for Women:
And whereas it is expedient that the Proclamation first above mentioned should be revoked:
Now, therefore, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers and authority vested in me, do hereby revoke the said Proclamation as from the date hereof.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 24th day of May, 1949.

Additional Land at Taihape Taken for the Purposes of the North Island Main Trunk Railway

A PROCLAMATION
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Public Works Act, 1928, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, I, Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Cyril Freyberg, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby taken for the purposes of the North Island Main Trunk Railway.

SCHEDULE
APPROXIMATE area of the piece of land taken: 1 rood 6·92 perches, Being part Lot 2 of section 27, Taihape Village Settlement.
Situated in Block XIV, Ohinewairua Survey District, Borough of Taihape. (S.O. 21848.)
In the Wellington Land District; as the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L.O. 9830, deposited in the office of the Minister of Railways at Wellington, and thereon coloured orange.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and issued under the Seal of that Dominion, this 24th day of May, 1949.
